Hello!

I remember during one of my playthroughs I was ambushed by a party of dopplegangers in an alley. I can't remember the exact dialogue, but it comes down to "you pissed off the wrong person". They didn't explicitly say who they were or who they work for. I had to reload, and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get them to appear. I also remember it was pretty late into the main story.

Who were they? Iron Throne remnants? Irenicus' lackeys? Twisted Rune agents?

I've met them many times, but for some reason never questioned who they really are. Script digging might shed some light.

The doppelgangers that turn into your party member doubles? It's just a random encounter that occurs in chapter 6/7. The "random" part is why you couldn't get them to appear again on cue. There is no back story.

Thanks for the reply. I assumed there would more to the situation; since a group of dopplegangers isn't as generic as the slavers, or gangsters we get in the game. It's a shame there isn't any backstory to the ambush. It looks like it could have led to a decent quest line.
