I like the brighter/orange highlights that I see in BGEE. Are there any mods that can do that for the gog games?
No.
This might consolidate you (I think it looks better, anyway):

Cool! Didn't know of that GUI mod.

I'm now using BG1 GUI, that's linked on the EasyTuTu page, but I like the looks of this one too. I'll make a backup of my EasyTuTu BG1 folder, and install this to see how it works :)

I use the W_Gui, but mind that a lot of custom resolutions aren't properly supported. Everything works, but there might be some graphical anomalies when using the widescreen mod.

Even with those quirks, I still think it looks better than the BGEE gui.
I think so, too. I wish there was a way to get W_GUI on BG:EE, but as far as I know "converting" BG2 GUI mods to BG:EE is pretty darn difficult.

Not to mention pointless, since every update wipes out all mods, without exception. And make no mistake, EE is still absolutely riddled with bugs.

True, but I still use mods with my EE game. It's not hard to reinstall mods after each update, and besides, the last update was like 3 months ago (which kinda sucks, too).

I hear they'll have the renderer completely redone in the next update, and apparently, this also means that new possibilities will be made available for GUI mods. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but it sounds intriguing.

I wonder how that is actually possible. Why didn't they just take regular BG1, use the Baldurdash Fixes, and then build a new GUI for the game, and add in characters and area's later?

I've read that there are bugs in some quests that were not there in the original game (even before the community fixed more bugs after the latest patch). That's just plain stupid, IMHO.
