I start the game as usual, it downloads the 300MB patch, I start it and what? all game saves from 70 hours of playing are gone. I only have the option to start a new game, no option to continue or the ability to load the game. What to do. I'm already very frustrated. pls help me what i need to do to continue my game? All save game are in larian folder (about 3,8GB of save games)
In C:\Users\(You)\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles do you have the following files?

playerprofiles8.lsf
> Public

And in the Public folder, do you have

config.lsf
modsettings.lsx
profile8.lsf
UILayout.lsx
> Savegames

In the Savegames folder there should be another folder called Story, and inside Story should be an individual folder for each of your saves.

Do you have all of these files present?
yes does he use galaxy or off line, is he even using Windows and a gog install, are there mods and he lives in Poland which got the busted patch so is that the issue or he removed it and then used the fixed patch Larian just released again?

all good questions

p.s, any save games made with that busted patch are gone... even if they are still on the harddrive they are worthless and will not load onto a Hotfix 3 or [fixed] hotfix 4 build

if you have hotfix 3 save games and patch the now fixed hotfix 4 then they should carry across [mine do] for Galaxy or off line

good luck

some of my saves were done before hotfix3 and some on this broken patch. Now I have this patched hotfix4 installed and none of the saves from hotfix3 or those from broken hotfix4 are working. So what? I have to start all over again because of a Larian bug where I'm not to blame? if so i just return the game and money because it's not a funny joke. I know people who didn't buy BG3, they just downloaded it from torrents and play without a problem, and I wanted to support the creators and I was punished :) beautiful ending

I'm calling bullshit for torrents not having any issues and i think refunds are jumping the gun since this is clearly a Larian tripped scenario but you do you mate

I wonder how you would feel in my place. you wait for the game for years, and after 70 hours of playing you lose everything because of some bug. in addition, larian claims that this new hotfix is already fixed. if so why is it not working for me??? no one can help me. I've been sitting frustrated for two days and I don't see any solution.
I have a similar problem on the disk I can see the game saves, unfortunately I do not have them visible after starting the game. Someone managed to solve this problem? It shows me that I have version 72 update.
I managed to solve this problem by myself. The thing is that the game doesn't launch properly, it even crashes the larian launcher error, but after ignoring it the game starts.
The game starts in debug mode so it was enough to move the save files from the folder

C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public

to the folder

C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Debug_Client_Profile_1

and immediately sees all savegames and all works even what I did on the damaged hotfix4 :)

I don't know why, but it works for me.

because the old system of more than 1 profile is still in the game... well done
This happened to me too and I can't figure out how to fix it. Some saves are showing up but I just lost 3+ hours of gameplay because my most recent saves disappeared. The game crashed while I was trying to save which is probably why it got messed up. I can see the previous save (right before crash) in my Appdata but the game doesn't register it. I've looked for the debug folder everywhere but there isn't one, only the main story folder so I'm not sure what the problem is. The only solution I've seen suggested is to just delete the entire BG3 folder and let GOG recreate it, but that seems so risky. Any other tips?? I could really use some advice from people more tech savvy than me.
This is the second - 2nd!!! - time they've released a patch after which all of my saved games disappeared.

The first time they said they messed up and were changed how they released patches.

So now they've done it again.

I had 40-some hours in on two toons, and I am very disappointed in them.
yes what Larian says and what they do is very different

@BizyLizyB the default path is C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames
and there should be a folder called "Story"... just save that that onto a USB stick before doing anything ... especially anything posted on a Larian forum

to be clear, the current build of BG3 is 4.1.1.3669438
yes cross save is busted
yes Larian did it at their end
yes the two copies of Patch 1 are different... yes they both have the same build number... YES that is retarded

p.s yes it is the exact same fuck up as last patch, yes Larian said they would change the way they do this shit... YES LARIAN LIED!

Yep, I know how to see my saves in the AppData and my recent one is there but the game doesn't register it when I boot BG3 up. I guess they must have done a patch between 3PM and 9PM when I took a break from playing? I'm so confused about why the game is not recognizing the save I can see with my own two eyes.

I love this game but it shouldn't be this hard to play it. Were you able to get your saves back??

Had similar issues. Larian's cloud sync sucks balls (slow and disables further saves/loads until it finishes) and GOG has syncing disabled for some reason, so I just disabled BG3's cloud save and setup Dropbox (pick your favorite sync tool) to sync the files.
Move your "%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames" folder to where you want it on your sync tool's path (e.g. "%HomePath%\Dropbox\Games\Baldur's Gate III\Savegames" ).
Then in PowerShell (open as Administrator), run this:

cd "$env:LocalAppData\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\"
New-Item -ItemType Junction -Path Savegames -Target "$Home\Dropbox\Games\Baldur's Gate III\Savegames"
Repeat on any machines you want your savegames synced to.
