I can't get arcanum to launch on my win 8.1 tablet. (Dell venue 8 pro)
I tried -no3d -doublebuffer, run as admin, -window, delete ddraw nothing works. Screen goes black, desktop resizes then gone. No error message, nothing.

Any thoughts?
+1 to this comment. Arcanum is one of the reasons i am holding on to my DV8P
If you haven't already, try WineD3D as per http://www.gog.com/forum/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura/windows_8_solved/post51

If that doesn't work, contact Support and let them try. I hope you're within the 30 day warranty period. Edit: nope, the OP is from January. Oh well.

I know it's a few months since you asked, but this shows on the front page, I had a similar issue, and managed to fix it. It might help others with the same problem.

What I did to solve a similar problem:
1. Delete ddraw.dll
2. Launch game "WITHOUT" -doublebuffer parameter.

My setup:
Game installer 2.0.0.15
Windows 7 64bit
Nvidia Graphics Driver 350.12

Try to install Unofficial Arcanum Patch v091225
You can find it at terra-arcanum.com site in Downloads section

What is the "doublebuffer parameter"?

Superfister87: What is the "doublebuffer parameter"?
-doublebuffer, one of the command line arguments for arcanum.exe. On Windows, they're usually added to the program path in shortcut properties.
I had a similar problem on my laptop. A lot of older games, that required an odd resolution, would crash as soon as I ran them.
I found out that that was fixed by going to the "Intel HD Graphics" panel and disabling "Conservative Morphological Anti-Aliasing" under "3D" settings.
