Has anyone encountered such crashing that the game complains that all of your saved games are corrupt and restarting the game becomes impossible unless you reboot the whole computer?
I'm getting this fairly often now, mostly when I try to quickload after I die, or just overall after I get killed in the game the game just hangs and load game doesn't work.
When trying to relaunch arcanum.exe, it just goes full screen (a black screen) for roughly five or so seconds) then shuts itself. This is weird since normally when you launch the game it starts playing the Sierra video immediately, so the few second wait with the black screen seems out of place.
This inability to launch the game might appear also when alt+tabbing a lot: the graphics get mumbled with sprites missing and black artifacting appearing on the screen.
Reinstalling the game when this happens doesn't change anything, and since restarting the computer fixes this I assume the problem might be about some sound or video thing hanging up and not shutting itself down properly, although ProcessExplorer doesn't show anything new/weird running so I'm out of ideas.
If anyone knows how to prevent this problem, or just preventing the need to restart every time this happens, please let me know!
Thanks.

First try setting the path in the game shortcut to "C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe" -no3d -doublebuffer
Adding the -no3d -doublebuffer seems to cure several graphics problems. Adding just the -no3d -doublebuffer . . . your path may be different . . .=)
If you have it installed, I would uninstall the High Res patch ( C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\HighRes.bat ) and see if the game will launch. The HR patch seems to be the problem most of the time.
Edit : I noticed in another thread that you were running the HR patch. As I mentioned above . . . the HR patch doesn't like to play well with all video cards / drivers. Make sure you have the latest video drivers installed . . . if you do (and Arcanum is CTD) . . . try rolling back to the previous driver and try playing with the older driver. (With XP, right-click the desktop,Properties, Settings, Advanced button, Adapter, Properties, Driver Tab, Roll Back Driver button )
If you don't have the latest driver installed . . . download and install the newest driver as a possible fix. I am running XP Pro, Nvidia, UAP, HR Maps,HR patch and the latest drivers with the GOG release with no problems.
In XP, check your driver date by right-clicking the desktop,Properties, Settings, Advanced button, Adapter, Properties, Driver Tab and note the driver date. Go to or [url=http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us]Nvidia and compare the driver dates for your card, if it is older, download and install the newer driver and try playing again. If you are having trouble with CTD and running the HR patch, you will need to uninstall the HR patch . . . or . . . find the driver version for your card that does not conflict with the HR patch.
Also . . . integrated cards seem to have more problems with the HR patch for some reason . . .=)
