I actually loaded this up on Vista about a month ago and played it for a while. But, it was plagued with interface lag. Every time I grabbed an item from inventory or a shop it would lag for seconds before I could move it. Clicking was flaky too. Anyone play the GOG version on vista have any problems?
There's same problem on Seven. Lags are horrible and sometimes the cursors are missing. I'm looking for a way to fix it.
Have either of you tried the unofficial patches/high res mod?
I'd be really surprised if the Steam version did not fix these issues...

....What steam version?
If there was one, I would be surprised if they _did_ fix those issues. Steam does not update older games for newer systems like GoG does, they just take the publisher files and push them out.

Steam never ever fixes any issues with old games. I can't count how many completely unpatched and untweaked old games there are on Steam. It's pretty much the worst place to get classic PC games.
Anyway, for those what as are having graphical problems with the game first try both the unofficial patch AND the widescreen mod. If that doesn't fix it, try running the game with the arguments "-no3d -doublebuffer" and see if that helps.

There's our answer. -no3d and -doublebuffer. Cleaned the lag instantly. I'll have to write that down somewhere. Thanks.

So, what do those arguments do? Are there any downsides to using them?

Culled them from here back when the game gave me similar issues.
-no3d disables the use of hardware 2D rendering and uses software mode if your card or OS has issues. Only downside to that one might be slow performance, but only if you have a oldish machine.
-doublebuffer simply tells the game to do frame buffering, which can help a lot with smoothness and has no adverse affects.

This issue seems to be related to GeForce cards only, the newest NVIDIA drivers( ver. 190+) have some major backwards compatibility issues.
There are two ways to fix this:
1. Install the NVIDIA ver. 180+ drivers
2. Try the -no3d switch.
Whichever works for You ;)

Ah, thanks for the info. So often it seems that tweaks like that have some downside, but that sounds fine.

Ah, that makes me feel even better about purchasing the game.

I have a GeForce 9650M GT (1GB VRAM) on my laptop with 186.5 drivers (I believe) and the game runs (with some graphical corruption re transparancy in inventory now and then, but its playable)
I run an old ATI card at the moment so.... But the -no3d does works. Nice to see a rep chiming in :)
Stopped playing because of the horrible loot lag it took like 5 seconds to loot big chest but -doublebuffer fixed it nicely
