I've run into a bizarre problem in Arcanum: One of my spent skill points (in Pickpocket) has disappeared. As I am unsure of the why and the how, I figured I would bring it here.
After noticing the problem, I flicked back a few saves until I found a save where I still had the skill point. Unfortunately, this is relatively far back, and I don't really want to have to do all of the things I have done in the meantime again. (I keep a lot of saves, but I save over older ones as I go along.)
I pondered over the skill loss, and wondered if it might be a feature of the game regarding skill degradation. However, I disregarded this as silly and instead questioned whether it had something to do with the fact that it was my only skill that I had not received training for so far (I've been looking for a trainer - maybe the fact that I no longer have the skill point is why I can't find one). Another thing that puzzled me was why Pickpocket acts as though it were a slowed growth skill - I am a half-elf with the Charlatan's Protege background, and all of the other skills I have act in accordance with that, though I received no explanation for Pickpocket's stunted growth.
Is there some way I can fix this besides reloading my old savegame, or will I have to deal with the mysterious loss of one of my skill points?

Are you wearing heavy gloves? If so try taking them off and see if you get your skill point back.

Thank you - I think that must have been the solution, as it restored Pickpocket to a normal-level skill rather than a stunted skill in the save I had before the skill point disappeared. It must have just been that I'd bought some new gauntlets which burned away all of my Pickpocket skill - at any rate, I'd decided to load rather than face the possibly of having lost a skill point, and just went around redoing some quests.
