Hey everyone,

I recently bought Anno 1602 on GoG (to catch some nostalgic feelings), but when starting up the game I ran into a problem.

In the menu AND ingame, the game stutters, has hickups and will not not respond from 1-2sec with intervals of a few seconds. So in other words, when I click an icon, it could take 2 seconds before it will actually register the click. Ingame, every unit building, flag freezes during this time.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?
Any advice/help would be highly appreciated.

P.S.: I'm using GoG Galaxy and Windows 7 64b.

what type of video card are you using? Does the stuttering happen at all resolutions?

Whoa, didn't expect a reply anymore. =)

I'm using a GTX 770.
Yep. It happens in every resolution.
I have to ask... are you using the latest drivers for the video card? I would say it sounds like a video issue, like the vertical refresh is too slow. I'm running a GTX980 TI and before I had aGTX560TI. Both run the game just fine. I'm wondering if you adjusted some settings in the nvidia control panel if that would help.

This is really odd, this game is so old you really should haven't have any problem running it. How much ram does the system have?

May 2021 ...

... same issue with ANNO 1503 ... 6 more years and counting.

Win7 64-bit AMD Radeon EAH4670 on a FX 8350 (special PC for GOG games).

Searching the forums did not help so far. Most 'advice' has more the flavor of 'voodoo magic' (not the card) as in "click on this three times and then pray... - also change your graphic settings to lower". Some German Anno fansites with 'user help' of the funniest sort: "... your Notebook is old".

This is gpu vendor independet (Nvidia AND AMD affected)

Tried all compatibility modes and running it via DX wrapper (DxWnd) but none of the more obvious config edits worked. After all, the game runs 'well' in fullscreen mode - uses only one CPU, etc ... all fine - until you click on some menu item ... and then it freezes for 10 seconds before it 'works' again. No 'autosaves'. Just, every time you click on something that needs a drawcall.

No longer interested in hunting a 'bug-fix' instead of dear. I guess, it's time to move on, to another PC. Test in there.
