Hello everyone,

I have been trying to get GoGs Anachronox to run for a while now but it ends up crashing the
computer to the point a hard reboot is required. I tried setting the extension limit in the Nvidia Inspector control panel for Quake 2 based games, but that didn't do anything. My config. intel core i7, nvidia gtx 260, Windows 7 64 bit. I can run Quake 2 fine though. Any ideas?

cheers!

Just an update on this. Managed to get it running in Windowed mode only. Fullscreen still crashes the entire computer. I guess I can live with Windowed mode, but it would be nice to run in Fullscreen.

What resolution are you using for the game? What resolution is your monitor? Could be that your monitor has problems scaling up the low resolution, but it runs fine in a window when you're not changing the resolution of the screen.
Thanks for your reply. I'm running it at 1280x960. I actually managed to get it running in fullscreen finally, but it took about 5 minutes of waiting at a blank screen for the game to start up. No idea why. However, it crashed the computer again when quitting it.

So my trick now is: run it in a window, wait for 2-3 mins to startup, play game. Quite a weird workaround, sigh!
It sounds kinda outta there, but maybe it is just a resolution thing; either with your monitor or with your GPU drivers. Have you tried running it in a different resolution (there should be a config tool with the anachronox exec.)
Just wanted to share my experience with getting Anachronox to run... I also had a feeling that the game completely crashes my computer when I try to launch it, but it turned out to be all about FAITH.

Big thanks to elim for the suggestion - if you start the game, screen goes black and absolutely nothing happens for a long time - just be patient. And it really took almost 10 min with seemingly dead computer (black screen and frozen keyboard) and then the game just launched! In my case I believe the problem was connected to either Avast antivirus or Comodo firewall - after the long wait I got a prompt from one of them to allow some sort of registry key modification and since I permanently allowed it, now the game launches without any problems. So possibly it is an antivirus conflict, but I must say it was one of the weirdest problems I ever had with a computer game.

So have faith and wait, Anachronox may eventually come to you like it came to me :)

PS , Also if you have a problem with any older game, it is wise to try to turn off any 3D sound option if possible - EAX and other 3D sound modes have a long history of crashing games. When you get a game running, you can try switching these back on.
