I could have heard that wrong, but wasn't the big deal about this release supposed to be that it was going to be given away free on GOG (at least for a shor time).
It seems to me that the game has only just been put up on GOG and already with a price tag. Of course I dont mind paying for a game...but im certain it was supposed to be released free.

Was there some kind of bait and switch here or am I completely wrong?
It was free, about a month ago, as part of a beta test for GOG Galaxy's multiplayer matchmaking capability. You had to sign up for the test, within two days, then receive the key for it. The game was only officially released today, commercially to all, not free but still very decently discounted, which is almost as good, given its quality.
Check your email and do a search for "GOG Galaxy multiplayer beta"

.

The above posters have pretty much addressed the issue but I'd like to add some info:

1: NO Bait and Switch here my friend. As mentioned above GOG was gifting copies of AVP a while back.

(Reason for GOG running the promo in which you would receive AVP for free was it was the gift of AVP was tied into GOG being able to stress test the MultiPlayer functions of the Galaxy Client.

Theory being give out game= lots of people who remembered the game going online to play in mass.)

2: GOG was pretty fast in fulling key orders, the only suggestion to improve what transpired would be for those that signed up to get a CONFIRMATION E-MAIL that confirmed you had successfully entered the promo.

EG: A e-mail saying:
We have received your request. Don't worry, a key has been reserved for you... along with a note giving time frame on when to expect key fulfillment.

What transpired at least for me was NO confirmation e-mail of a successful promo entry was sent. NONE, nor were you rolled over to a second page as is typically done that gives clue a order or request has processed successfully.
(The only tip off was if you entered e-mail address for a second time you would get a message saying e-mail address was already used. LOL)

While some may say it wasn't needed. Processional way to do promo since it was so heavily tied to the roll out of the Galaxy Client would be to send persons signing up a confirmation e-mail.

I got it for free so I can attest that it was free for Galaxy testers for a while.
