Does the GOG release fix the menu unresolved echo carried through missions.
I have the actual original retail version and the only reason i stopped playing it on new hardware because the constant 'chung chung chung chung chung chung chung chung' just drove you nuts.

I played it for a bit (maybe 15 minutes) to see how well it works and I didn't experience any menu sound carryover.
