Note that this is for The Nations (aka Alien Nations II).
Players might be interested that instead of going to the site mentioned in game that doesn't work anymore, the map editor can be downloaded at http://thenations.jowood.de/Sites/download.htm
However, I can't seem to get it to run since it says an outdated version of The Nations is installed on my PC.
So I unpacked the editor by 7Zip. I extracted everything from the EXE file into the subfolder "Editor" (tried in the main directory, too, but same issues would arise, can always copy it again to there if necessary). The background.tga was put into a subfolder "resource" by me, so I can use the graphics editor now.
However, the map editor doesn't work. Now I'd have to set up the "path.missions" since it is not found by the editor.exe in the configuration. It says I should reinstall the program which is impossible due to the reasons stated above. Ok, to set this up I ran the regedit tool and went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> JoWooD -> DV2Editor and edited the registry entries there. However, still a message appears that says the configuration (paths) can not be properly read.
Ok, here's the workaround: Export the Path DV2Addons (from HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> JoWooD) from the Registry and edit the file to change DV2Addons to DV2Editor and import it again. Now the editor will load but crashes when it has finished loading.
Maybe someone can tell us how to get the editor to work? I will give up now, tried running it from a separate folder and from the game folder, with the original and the editor's language.ca file, always it crashes after loading but at least the editor.exe starts.
(Also, does anyone know where to download user maps?)
