I was recently in the mood for playing a bit of AOW1 again, and man I forgot how hard was it always for me. I got repeatedly beaten by those pesky goblins on scenario 1 of the campaign, so I ended up quitting out of frustration. Are there any good maps to play in a more relaxing pace?

Try Heartwood Forrest. That is a fairly easy medium sized map with a lot of terrain features.
