I have another question, if you'd be so kind:

Is there any way to increase the probability of landing wizard spells? I know the War Mage skill increases my Attack with them but is there anything else I can do? Does equipping Attack-boosting items increase my Attack with spells like Magic Fist, for example, or is the Attack rating dependent solely on the spell and not subject to modification?

Attack value doesn't influence spell power. Each spell has it's own attack attack rating so you can't increase your spells attack. You can increase chance to hit by decreasing enemy resistance, though. ;-)

OK, thanks. So every spell is opposed by enemy resistance, right? Even the straight-up 'attack' spells like Magic Fist?

I believe so. Well, it is Magic Fist, so what would you expect? ;-) I would more expect spell like Suffocate to roll against DEF instead of RES but I don't think it does too.
