Greybriar: As best I could tell (I just fired up AoWSM to refresh my memory), the combat mechanism in Shadow Magic was as I described in the last sentence of my previous post and action points were refilled at the start of a unit's turn, not at the end of its turn.
I politely disagree. If move/action refreshed at the beginning of a unit's turn, then there would be no retaliation at all by units that had moved to their limit... :-) I have spent many a turn watching my tank-like hero retaliate four times every turn and not been able to move or take an action while surrounded by enemy units. It's rather disheartening, but it is the game mechanic in place in AoW:SM and from your quote, the mechanic that will be in place in AoW:3. Please don't let this feature dissuade you from enjoying the new game.
