What's next for 8-Bit Armies?

Hi everyone!

We have been listening to your feedback, improving the core game, and figuring out what’s next. Now, a couple weeks after launch we have a plan we wanted to share with all of you.

SWITCHING GEARS…
Since April 22nd we have spent a great majority of our time responding to your suggestions for improvements, or helping with compatibility issues – or whatever happens to be on your mind. Four updates in the first two weeks (with another one planned for tomorrow) has kept us busy, but we wanted to be sure the game was in great condition before switching gears to adding more content - like our next faction. Over the next month we’re going to continue handling any issues that appear, but also slow down the frequency of patches as we switch back into “future content mode”.

COMING SOON?
Right from the start, we wanted to let you know we have plans to expand the game by placing a teaser on the main menu. We received some really great ideas from you on what we should do next, and where the existing single faction feels a little light. Today, we’re glad to announce that we have begun work on the second faction! We expect to share more information about it in about 2 weeks, and also start looking for beta testers around that time. We’ll put a call out for volunteers in the forums and in Discord chat as soon as there's something ready to play. Stay Tuned!

OTHER REQUESTS….
We have had many requests for more units, multiplayer features, and all kinds of other additions to the game – many of these feature improvements have already been added. We also know that a lot of people want to build, share, and play their own maps – and we’re happy to report that work on the map editor has already begun. It’s a big task and there are some obstacles to getting it ready but our goal is to get it released in May if everything goes well.

ROADMAP AND PRIORITIES
Since we’re a small team, and there is so much we want to do, there has to be some prioritization to determine what gets done first – mostly due to your feedback. Our plan (subject to change) for the next couple months looks like this…

MAY:
•Ongoing Updates & Improvements

•Map Editor!

•More Maps!

•Faction 2 Beta-Testing

JUNE:
•Ongoing Updates & Improvements

•Faction 2 Release

•Additional Campaign (Co-Op/Single Player) Missions

•Balance adjustments as necessary

•Planning for what's next...

And somewhere in May or June we are planning to support localized content. We're currently working on this, but a delivery date has not yet been nailed down.

As always, we appreciate the great support you have for us, the development team. We read the forums every day and your posts are sparking lots of side discussions in the hallways here. Thanks again, and please continue to let us know what you think!

Their development pace is incredible! I love their attitude and upcoming stuff sounds marvelous :-)
Very disappointed that LAN is not listed in the road map.
There is still hope...

... if it doesn't get lost in the pile of other feature they want to add.

If I owned the game I would be excited for the 2nd faction and map editor. It's been a while since I've had an easy map editor for a RTS game.

I wish you guys all the best, but without LAN, I'll have a look less and less frequent. Since it's not even listed it doesn't seem important to you which is fine.

This is not DRM free to me. See you!
Can't wait for the second faction. Hopefully its not going to be that Warcraft/Zombie thing in the menu preview. Give me some soviets. Tesla Coil!!!!!!!
I would love to see some sort of simple built-in Unit Editor.

Nothing too complicated, just make your own unit doing predefined parts (Humanoid parts like differently textures arms and legs, tank tracks, mech legs or other animated stuff) and building the chassis with blocks. How much they cost is bound on how many blocks/stuff you've placed amongst other things (for instance, secondary weapons like with the Soviet Heavy Tank/Mamoth Tank Clone back in the day would be nice).

Would be nice to make your own Units while playing against the AI or Online.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I still look forwards towards these updates. Though it would be a bit silly to have medieval units duking it out against tanks.

You've never played the Civilization series then.

Good joke!
Nice update, but I was also hoping LAN would be confirmed. A new faction should be fun, just no Warcraft/Minecraft please. Some Tesla Coils, and Mammoth tanks would be nice!

Still wishing for veterancy.
GOG has offered me a store credit for this game since it does NOT offer what I consider a true DRM free experience by not having a LAN option. I temporarily turned down GOG for the store credit in the hopes this dev would come through, but now that I can see it is not in the foreseeable future I have asked GOG for that store credit they offered previously. I also told GOG support I would avoid any title they offer that makes Galaxy a requirement for major features to work in a game. To me this is not DRM free and loosely follows the Steam online only DRM model.

I know it's more than a just a few people who want LAN in this game after reading forums across Steam and GOG so why it's not on a priority list with the dev is suspicious to me. The nice thing is World In Conflict Complete Edition also recently got a release on GOG which does have LAN and is a fantastic RTS way ahead of its time and still looks graphically amazing. Guess what I'm playing more of?

The single player skirmish and are DRM free no need for another galaxy or played so drm free. The multi only online (increasingly playing the multiplayer is online and lan disappears as sc2 for example). Perhaps a way to protect at least their games against piracy by offering "solo drm free" and online multiplayer. The lan appear can be later when the game will be sold well.

If I understand your English properly, you just reinforce my point. I buy GOG almost exclusively for a complete DRM free experience. If GOG wants to mess with that formula then they wont be seeing dollars from my wallet. I do appreciate them offering a store credit which I will now take advantage of.
Sorry for my English. I want to say that I find acceptable at least the solo part is DRM free. I can understand that the dev looking to secure their games against piracy by offering a multi-line mode. But I hope that when the game is sold well in the coming months they can forward a lan mode.
I feel like, if this game wasn't on GOG and was only on steam, I would never have expected a lan option. It never would have crossed my mind. But as soon as it's listed on GOG, It feels like an insult. GOG is the last bastion for LAN mode. They are invaders, they are not welcome here. I mean, they can prevent piracy and keep control of their product if they desire, what the heck do I care what they do. But if they want to do that, then they should stay the heck off what little land I have left. I wish they would either add lan mode, or permanently remove themselves from GOG.
