Warzone 2100

Warzone 2100 (1999)

by Warzone 2100 Project
Genres:Strategy, Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Themes:Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:In the late 21st century, NASDA (the North American Strategic Defense Agency) developed and deployed a massive missile defense system, including a network of nuclear-equipped satellites and ground-based launch sites. However, during a routine maintenance check, something went terribly wrong... While most of the survivors form scavenger bands to survive, one group of people, who refer to themselves as "The Project", seeks to rebuild civilization using pre-war technology. Warzone 2100 is a real-time strategy game, originally developed by Pumpkin Studios and published by Eidos Interactive, now developed by the Warzone 2100 Project. Compared to other real-time strategy games, it has a greater focus on artillery, radar, and counter-battery technologies, more frequent in-game cinematic updates as game play progresses, a massive research tree, as well as a vehicle design system. Outside of the story, Warzone 2100 only has a single faction. This limits some of the variety that can be expected from real-time strategy games, although the single faction is very complex. Essentially, Warzone 2100 plays much like Earth 2150 with 3D units and terrain, customizable vehicles, a lack of traditional infantry, use of "research" to acquire new technologies, and the differentiation of vehicles types.Show more

I used to play this game when I was a kid, and the idea of designing your own units in an RTS game using techs you develop is wild, even to this day. I'm happy to say that there's a free, open-source sort of remake/remaster of this game. While the project already has a website, a community, and tons of features, I'd like to see GOG getting in touch with the project to maybe add it to their free to play catalogue. Even if it doesn't bring in a lot of profit, I like the idea of GOG collaborating with other projects that further game preservation, even if it is, in this case, for a single free game

This was a very interesting game when it came out since it allowed you to customize the vehicles that you could build. My friend and I had an inside joke about spamming the Machine Gun/Viper/Wheels build whenever we played.

This is my second favorite RTS after Emperor: Battle for Dune. Warzone 2100 has great customization options, a fantastic post apocalyptic grim dark setting and atmosphere, worthy challenge, and a banging OST. I totally agree with another poster that GoG may find open arms if they look into the open source project and contact the hard working folks behind it.

-Perfecting my econ through the night only to get nuked by a psychotically charismatic AI a few missions later. -Running a fleet of paper thin (and cheap) amphibious AA scouts as spotters when I realised my super heavy howitzers could barely make it from one end of the base to another in a play session. -Fist-pumping a power upgrade of all things, only to jostle my playstation too much and crash the game. -Discovering assault cannons, dropping everything for assault cannons, never being punished. From designing your own units to desperately researching concrete upgrades, genuinely fearing the enemies next transmission - as it could mean it's time to go buy milk. This is a gem in single player gamings cap. Although multiplayer (human and bot) is there, the campaign is where this game really shines. I truly believe this is the most uniquely 'Game' military RTS ever made and represents what was lost in the 'competitive' trend chasing rush. It is now mostly open source and freely available (wz2100) but that isn't on the most stable legal grounds, and if anybody deserves praise for preserving games and making them last forever, and what that means to fans, it is those maintainers. A collaborative link. Legal support to make everything secure and confident enough to use the video files in a single bundle. GOG acting as a distributer to reach more people. Really any support that makes seeing more RTSs like this really would be a dream.

SOMEHOW i did enjoyed this game on PS1. PS1 mouse was extremely rare even in USA, and so i did it on DualShock. PS1 port which limit units to 4(!) squad by 10(!!!) units - include non-combat engineering units, mobile repair and sensors. Not perfect visuals, empty post-apoc landmarks (at last Act3 there will be city ruins still everything empty and grey). Just 3 music tracks for PC version (4 for PS1, and another one for PS1 demo). But intense gameplay close to Total Annihilation and expanding system, make alot of fun for me. Im an RTS fan, i did like siege mission and replay previous one to rebuild my defense. I liked that its goes to next mission right from previous base. I enjoy recognition landing tactical missions (no base). I did enjoyed design "my own" units, and take direct control of them (this one are PS1 version exclusive feature). Looking back - design system just a few bunch of preset not really big deal - but it really make the trick, along with campaign Research progression system (differ from Skirmish Tier Research system). Open source project screw campaign with each new update, bring issues with AI and unit pathfinding/controls. Original PC version(v.1.10) has issues with launching even on old WinNT OSes - but better as original and as better balanced campaign. Still The Project make me lost in it again. PC version has Skirmish and online multiplayer, which slightly differ from campaign in fact, when you not lurk for technology artifacts. Warzone 2100 is like 2 differ games in one on PC. And another one on PS1. With modern multiplayer experience for Warzone 2100 The Resurrection Project. I wish SupCom get features of WZ2100, without them i cant name modern suppress game, but WZ2100 dated alot... But not obsolete. Unique game to this days. Deffinetly deserve Preservation Program, cause it is one of the games has no second game like this (yet). All 3 ports. P.S. Open-source port shared on another Store. I need original!

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil SurvivorTokyo is in full lockdown, the government's swift, coldblooded response to a surprise demon invasion. Trapped within the sprawling metropolis is the city's helpless populace, forced to turn on each other in order to survive. A mysterious piece of technology, the COMP, falls into the hands of you and your peers. This device allows you to form contracts, forcing demons to serve you in battle against the otherworldly creatures. There are others with COMPs, so-called demon tamers, who seek to use the demons to satisfy their own whims-be they for justice, peace, or power-in the chaos that was once downtown Tokyo. Where did the demons come from? Why did they appear? Who created the COMPs, and what is their purpose? These questions must soon be answered, for if you fail to solve the mystery, much more is at stake than your own lives.

Heavy Gear II
Heavy Gear IIAs the leader of the special ops group Dark Talons, lead your squad mates on a series of dangerous missions as you discover the NEC plot against your homeland, Terra Nova. Operate behind enemy lines as you gather data, attack enemy camps, capture enemy leaders, take over space stations, and more. Combat happens on land, underground (huge caverns), and even in space. There are plenty of weapons to outfit your gear, even some hand-to-hand weapons. You can also add perks and flaws to further customize your gear. Stealth is a major concern in some missions. The game play feel is very different from the Mechwarrior series. Set in Dream Pod 9's Heavy Gear universe (it actually rivals the Battletech universe in complexity, though not nearly as famous), this game requires 3D accelerator with its "Dark" 3D engine. The gears are capable of very human-like movements, such as kneeling, crawling, and jumping.

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.

Fire Emblem Fates: Special Edition
Fire Emblem Fates: Special EditionFire Emblem Fates - Special Edition was a limited time bundle containing both base stories, Birthright and Conquest, and gave access to DLC for the 3rd story, Revelation, when it became available. The games were otherwise sold separately though you could get the second story path digitally at a discount. You need to be have completed chapter 6 in the either game to access the other stories, and the DLCs, path. Conquest is the hardest of the 3 paths having no ability to grind experience from maps, tougher mission objectives, and giving less money and experience for those missions. Birthright, the easiest path, has the ability to use scouting missions to grind experience and money and simpler mission objectives that give greater amounts of experience and money. Revelation is in the middle as the scouting missions are available but the mission objectives are similar to Conquest's. This is ignoring the 3 difficulty settings in-game. "Two kingdoms at war – the peace-loving Hoshido and the glory-seeking Nohr – It’s up to the player to decide which side to take. As the prince/princess of Hoshido, who was raised by Nohr royal family, you will be torn between two families you love. Whichever path you take, you will face different types of challenges."
