Story:Stunts (also known as 4D Sports Driving) is an early 3D racing video game developed by Distinctive Software, Inc.. The game places emphasis on racing on stunt tracks and features a track editor, it is clearly influenced by the earlier arcade game Hard Drivin' and has many similar elements to the game Stunt Driver which was released around the same time. In Stunts, players race a lap around the circuit, with the aim of completing the lap as quickly as possible without crashing. However, these laps often feature special track areas such as loops, jumps (including over tall buildings), slalom roads and corkscrews. The game area is restricted by a large fixed size square area defined and surrounded by a fence which the game is designed to prevent the player from leaving. Players can either race against the clock or choose between six different opponents; there is no support for real-time multiplayer. Stunts features 11 different drivable cars, with either automatic or manual transmission. Replays of races can be saved and reviewed. There are four camera views available during replay and actual driving, and the dashboard is an optional overlay on all views. It is also possible to continue the race from any point in the replay, however the time for that race will not be recorded. Another major feature of the game is the built-in track and terrain editor which allows the user to design arbitrary new tracks or modifications of existing tracks.[2] The cars can drive on paved roads, gravel roads, icy/snow roads, and grass if driving off the track — which all offer different levels of grip. The game has a relatively advanced pseudo-physics engine for its time which can simulate oversteer and understeer, grip is also proportional to the banking of a curve. The game features a 3D engine with flat shading and no textures, it uses polygonal graphics for most objects, including trees and road signs, there are few sprites. The resolution is 320×200 with 256 colors. There is an option to select high and low detail. The game is written for DOS and executes in real mode.[3] Stunts includes a form of copy protection. Each time after running the program, players must complete a specific phrase found in the game manual before being allowed to race. If the player fails to complete the phrase three times, the next race will still load. However, approximately four seconds into the race, the player is informed that he or she did not deactivate the car's security system, the car crashes, and the player is returned to the main menu.Show more

I got introduced to Stunts 4D Sports Driving by a primary school friend who played it on his father's computer. Later, when I got a computer, I played it for countless hours with my cousin. You could choose from a variety of cars and opponents, who all have a distinct character and driving style. The best thing about the game was the track editor with which you could create your own obstacle courses with tunnels, loopings and bridges. Those were the days! I haven't got any copy of the game and would love to play it on today's hardware out of nostalgia.

I've played Stunts for so many hours I cannot even estimate my total playing time with this classic. My friends and I used to exchange the tracks we created and we had a blast trying to beat each other's lap records. I still have them all backed up, including some replays. The graphics were amazing back in 1990. I remember being blown away when, after years of listening the PC Speaker version, I finally heard the main menu music with a Sound Blaster 16. I'm certain some of you guys know what I'm talking about. It'd be truly awesome to have a GOG release (which will include, I dare to dream, the FM TOWNS version as well) running smoothly with all possible audio options that were available for the game.

The hours spent on making tracks! On filling the whole area with everything! On hotseating and testing each others tracks. On the horror when all tracks disappeared (and releief when we worked out that 99 tracks were the maxium number, so a couple of deletes, and everything came back)

One of my favorite games growing up, i spent countless hours playing this and creating tracks with my friends. It had some funny glitches that we exploited and it make it even better. I really hope that you can release this one GOG, im counting on you!. (The menu music is imprinted on my brain)

Here too, hours spent creating tracks with all we could add, many times not even fun to drive but the joy of creating them was all we looked for. Going at ludicrous speed with a Formula-1-like racing car over corkscrews and jumps, trying to make the car loose grip just that much so to trigger a bug that would set the car to maximum speed no matter the terrain (and then don't even try to steer), hitting that narrow spot where a bug would make you go straight across a corkscrew, and sometimes on a impact at maximum speed seeing the car rocket straight to the sky (and saving the recording of that stunt). Plus the fun of driving on my friends' tracks and sometimes even beating their records. After this game, I have looked for years and years for another with an integrated editor. Until I stopped looking — I am not aware of any still. Oh, and a couple of times I almost got violent with Skid Vicious hitting my car from behind ("I own the road" my...). Makes me think, I was playing a lot of games from Brødebund at that time (Prince of Persia, Lode Runner, and this).

I am a little kid when I discover him and make a lot of circuits, race a lot of laps on it making "incredible" acrobacies. The game was acceptable, but the editor makes me all I need to dream.
I spent many, many hours putting together the most varied tracks to distribute via floppy disk with my friends back in school. It was a lot of fun to compete and explore the limits of the game's physics. It's a true classic!

I spent days creating new maps, where every turn and every jump was calculated to be achievable with a careful selection of cars and pinpoint precision of the controls. Also, I used all the cosmetic items to make the map more colourful and close to real(ish) life. Jumping over an apartment building or a boat. Such cool things.
