This is one of those super obscure titles that almost feels like it was a rumor. Released back in 2008, *Mouse Generation* was a 3D fighting game for PC where you controlled Street Fighter characters with your mouse instead of a traditional controller. It had such a unique look—almost action figure-like models—and you could customize fighters with parts from different characters. Seriously, you could mix and match Ken’s hair, Ryu’s gloves, and Chun-Li’s boots. The gameplay itself was totally different from any other Street Fighter, blending click-based combat with some physics-based attacks.
I’ve only seen videos and screenshots, but I would love to play this game because I never got the chance to try it myself. It feels like a piece of fighting game history that almost no one talks about today. It was Japan-only, and Capcom never brought it to the West, so most of us never had a shot at it unless we were dedicated enough to figure out how to get it running.
It’s so interesting to look back and see how experimental Capcom was during that time. Between *Street Fighter IV* launching in arcades and stuff like *Mouse Generation* happening online, they were really trying to expand the series in all directions. Even though the game wasn’t a big hit, you have to respect that level of creativity.
If Capcom ever did a re-release or fan project, I’d be first in line to download it. There’s something so cool about lost or niche fighting games, and this one is definitely near the top of my list. If you’ve played it, I’d love to hear what you thought or if you have any tips on how to experience it today!
