Space Hulk - Ascension has been delisted years ago and is essentially abandonware now. The description very much does it justice and the screenshots give a good impression of the dark atmospheric look.
Gameplay is slow, methodical and often repetitive, but Ascension introduces various additions which help keep things interesting. DLCs added many more chapters to choose from on top of that and adjustable difficulty is yet another way to customize the experience.
Its main strengths lie in atmosphere and good sound design and the relatively small margin for error that lends the player's actions weight and keeps the tension up.

The gameplay follows the recipe from Doom RPG as it is shown in the first person while being a turn-based role-playing game rather than a shooter and puts emphasis on the plot. Combat and movement are turn-based, allowing the player time to select their responses in combat. The player turns at 90 degree angles and moves space by space. One step or action by the player allows all other characters in the area to take one step or action themselves. The game takes advantage of its deliberately slow pace, encouraging players to take their time and check out every little corner, read the books on every bookshelf, and destroy all the furniture to see if anything is hidden within. Levels include underground passages and weapon development laboratories plus a level involving a moving vehicle.

Abandoning the post-apocalyptic themes of the original series, the story takes place in modern Japan. The player character is an unnamed college student who is attacked by demons along with his girlfriend; they are saved by the timely appearance of a suave demon-hunter named Kyouji. Shortly thereafter, Kyouji is found dead under suspicious circumstances. The protagonist is then trapped inside of a warehouse and murdered by a deranged killer named Sid. Rather than stay dead, the player finds himself in the reanimated body of the slain Kyouji, and escapes from the morgue.
