Need for Speed: Underground is the quintesential night racing scene game that started my love (and hate) relationship with modded cars and underglow neon. It also shaped my music taste as a kid/teen, which I guess is not a bad thing either, because the music was generally quite good :) The most important thing, however - the racing! The physics were alright at the time, the rubberbanding AI was frustrating, but not unbeatable (even at hard), but the visuals and the look of the cars made it all worthwhile :) And who could forget the intro music when you land on the main menu...
My first time playing it was on GameCube, truly amazing when I was a kid and still as adult, every game that's made or distributed by EA needs to be in this preservation program, we already know they are famous by killing games and studios.
8 year old me was playing it up and down. It is childhood for me and since I cannot get my old retail game to work I would love to have it back with gog. AND: Legendary soundtrack!

The game that started the changing of the series - and arguably the racing genre on its tail. It's was short, unbalanced, simple yet a classic nonetheless. We love things for the flaws as much as we do their qualities after all.
NFS: Underground was my first in the series. Everyone at school was obsessed with it but I was the one beating everyone times. I remember once we started playing together was when I decided to learn how to drive. Was I safe? No. Do I blame this game? Also no, I blame 2 Fast 2 Furious for that. However, this game made me start falling in love with cars and remember wanting to tune my own car. As I was still too young to own one, I convinced my brother and he got some neon lights on his. This game brings warm memories both in game and IRL. Probably the closest I was with my brother were during those night drives.

I started playing it, it was one of the first racing games I played, I fell in love at first sight because of the many references it had to the Fast and Furious movie with that Honda Accord painted red and white It was great to see the motion blur when using the microphone, for me in those years it was impossible to acquire a game. So my visits were in an internet cafe but today since I am a As an adult I want to buy it and have it to show it to the new generations who will love it as much as I do.

I was playing only NFS Most Wanted but I know it started from Underground ;) I'm not even a fan of motorization but this series was just great. Everybody in school had to play it and talk about it all the time.
Loved this title so much... I played trough a countless times. Sometimes in multiplayer too. A couple of keyboards was destroyed in the heat of the game XD The soundtrack is still blood boiling.

Miami Vice
Miami ViceIn this spin-off from a popular TV cop show of the 1980s, Crockett and Tubbs are trying to smash a drugs ring bossed by Mr. J. You have to start at the bottom, initially busting the casual dealers before reaching their suppliers, and ultimately the casino-dwelling honchos. This is done through a combination of driving and shooting, through an overhead rendition of Miami. When crooks are stopped they will often provide valuable information, although sometimes they can only be stopped by shooting them.

Ballblazer
BallblazerBallblazer is a 1984 computer game created by Lucasfilm Games (later LucasArts Entertainment). It was originally released for the Atari 8-bit systems, such as the Atari 800 and the Atari 5200. It was also ported to other popular platforms of the day, such as the Apple II, ZX Spectrum (by Dalali Software Ltd), Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Atari 7800, and the NES. The Atari 800 version was called Ballblaster during development - pirated versions of the game went by this name as well. The principal creator and programmer of Ballblazer was David Levine. In 1990, LucasArts and Rainbow Arts released a remake and follow-up to this game, called Masterblazer. This game was released for the Amiga, Atari ST, and PC DOS. A similar game inspired by Ballblazer called Space Football: One on One was developed and released by Triffix for the Super NES in 1992. Years later on March 31, 1997, a remake of the original titled Ballblazer Champions was released for the Sony PlayStation.

Newman/Haas Racing
Newman/Haas RacingNewman/Haas presents racing in its purest form - no power-ups, shortcuts, or weapons here - and playing it requires equal parts patience, skill, and raw endurance. Those looking for an authentic Indy Car experience are in luck, as this is a game of remarkable depth and customizability. It offers a mind-boggling array of options - digital or analog control, single- or dual-player racing, four levels of difficulty, eleven tracks, 16 drivers, and a partridge in the pit stop. OK, I'm kidding about the last item, but it's obvious that Psygnosis doesn't think Indy Car racing is a laughing matter, and it's gone to great lengths to make Newman/Haas as realistic as possible.

18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker
18 Wheeler: American Pro TruckerThe main purpose of the game is to make it to the finish line with the truck's cargo. Players are given a set amount of time, but can ram into special vans that will add three seconds to the timer. There are several characters to choose from, each with a unique truck and attributes. The game starts out in Key West and players travel across the United States, ending in San Francisco. After Stage 1, the game gives the player a choice of trailer. One trailer is harder to haul, but provides a bigger payoff while the other choice is easier to haul but provides a smaller payoff. Money is deducted from the total when the trailer is hit. Players can sound the truck's horn to make other cars on the road yield and slipstream behind large vehicles to gain a momentary speed boost. In addition to the time limit, players also compete with the "Lizard Tail", a rival trucker. Crossing the finish line before the Lizard Tail yields additional money. In between levels, players can park the truck in a mini game to earn more cash.
