Story:The player takes the role of a namable Hero. The Hero's name has an effect on his statistical growth over the course of the game. Battles are fought in a turn-based format and experience points and gold are awarded after every battle, allowing the Hero to level-up in ability and allows them to buy better weapons, armor, and items. This was my first video game RPG that I ever played. Also was the first the one that I ever completed.
I was used to playing D and D with my friends in the early '80s until the mid .80s. Then, unfortunately for me but fortunately for the video game industry, I moved away from them. So no more TTRPG. My mom bought me a Nintendo that Christmas with this game, known to me as Dragon Warrior, Legend of Zelda (gold cartridge), Defenders of the Crown and, of course, Super Mario Bros 3. I played Dragon Warrior first and fell madly in love with it. Of course I played the other games but I kept coming back to this one. Eventually I acquired a PC and I have been hooked on CRPGs ever since.
I would love for this game to get the GOG treatment.
This was my introduction to RPGs. I remember my older brother, my father, and myself all creating save files on our NES cart and working away to get to the ending. They gave up after a while but I persevered...and eventually wiped out their saves so I could replay the game again and again. The game that started one of the biggest RPG franchises of all time, it absolutely deserves to be part of the GOG Preservation Program.
