Die Magie hat sich aus dem Land von Karl Torlin zurückgezogen und erneut beginnen Schatten, das Land zu bedecken. Du schlüpfst in die Rolle der Zauberin Raven, der Ururenkelin von Lakmir dem Zeitlosen, um der Magie ihren rechtmäßigen Platz zurückzugeben. Nur mit Lakmirs Chrono-Kugel und in Begleitung von Lord Jairs sarkastischem Gefährten Yorick machst du dich auf den Weg zum Ursprung der Plage – Schloss Shadowgate.
Im Inneren des sagenumwobenen Schlosses erwarten dich hinterhältige Monster und raffiniert gestaltete Rätsel. Um die dunklen Bewohner zu besiegen, die dir den Weg versperren, musst du dein Storybook erstellen und sechs Schulen mächtiger Zaubersprüche erlernen. Die Interpretation der Stories und das Kombinieren und Beherrschen der Zaubersprüche kann den Unterschied zwischen einem schnellen Sieg und einem vorzeitigen Tod ausmachen.
Also nur Mut! Obwohl die Dunkelheit in Shadowgate lauert und der Sensenmann durch die alten Hallen wandelt, wirst du siegreich sein! Du musst! Denn das Schicksal von Kal Torlin ruht auf deinen Schultern.

Modern Slop
This is one of those games I walked in wanting to love. After all I've been a fan of the franchise since I played the original on NES. But as I walk away, this feels like the personification of the more sinister side of game design made by a team who really had no interest in the franchise so much as wanted to make their own game and used Shadowgate as the vehicle. They completely disregard the previous title and the lore it established, tore down the original main character, and while Raven was not a completely unlikable character, her total struggles both in the game and as she described her life before it basically boils down to when she had to ask the Djinn about unlocking powers within her that she already had, even as she knew all about what he was scheming somehow. It feels like this is more a fan-fiction then anything else with boring gameplay to support it... In short this is a prime example of what modern trash looks like.

Unexpected game!
This seems to be the direct sequel to Shadowgate that takes place shortly after the first game. It seems to be just built on the license of the same name, because the true sequel from the original developers is called Beyond Shadowgate. That game had the same type of gameplay and sound of the original NES game, they even added chiptune music to that game, This however was very different, it's more like mediocre adventure game, missing the suspense of both the original game and Beyond Shadowgate. Something that made the OG game so special, was the technical limitations, so you had to add a bit of your own imagination to the game. This just feels flat and dull in comparison.
