Even really old games are getting updated multiple times. What's going on? Smells like some new DRM crap.

Are these Galaxy-delivered updates you are referring to, or are we talking offline installers as well?

P.S.: Please don't insult rats by affiliating them with DRM :P.

Via Galaxy (like 15-20 updates a day over the last week - many for REALLY OLD GAMES, that would not be getting updates). I think they are trying to make every game dependent on Galaxy to run.

Have you tried running them without Galaxy... before posting that?

I never used Galaxy but i had update notifications for the Streets of Rage 4 offline installer twice today, and both times there wasn't an actual update but it was the same version as before. My guess is that there is a glitch with gog accidentally misidentifying the current versions of games as updated.

It's more likely they updated the dosbox for a bunch of games. Did you compare the files between your copies and the new versions of games you own yet?

Why would I do that?

Just had 25 more in the last 10 minutes, and most are not Dos games. The server is screwed-up.

Wait... what?!

You are using Galaxy, and complaining about games using Galaxy?

So you'd be sure that what you're saying isn't a pile of troll manure.

I looked in the install directory of several of my updated games. Assuming I can trust file modification dates, the updates consisted of the following:

1. File Manifest, including Windows registry entries
2. Icons
3. Uninstaller
4. A script that appears to perform installation steps
5. The list of run targets used by Galaxy for "play" or "additional executables"

Witcher 1 additionally had a DLL update.

I'm not going to restore full disk backups to see the precise changes, but I see no evidence of increased/enforced galaxy integration.

Smells like unfounded paranoia. The clouds have moved! The sky is obviously falling!!!!

Have you compared the files that were updated? Have you verified whether any new files were added? What exactly are you basing this "new DRM crap" allegation upon? Without any firm evidence I could just as easily claim that they must be releasing further Windows 10 compatibility updates.

Kudos to Mortis1 for actually researching what was updated and making an informed assumption based on that (+1 to you, sir). Based on his data, it looks like they're updating the install/uninstall process (which plays right into my initially baseless "they must be updating Win10 compatibility" claim) as well as improving Galaxy's various launch options. I see no nefarious schemes here....

Mac and Linux installers have been added. (Thanks, SCPM!)

Give the OP a break.

Its just more of this:-

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/offline_installers_with_an_option_to_install_gog_galaxy/post1414

and that is a backdoor to update any offline installer in anyway gog sees fit.

You saying that updates are DRM.

Why indeed...

Depends on the updates. Remember when certain music licenses expired and then the GTA3 game a BUNCH of music got stripped from the game...
