KiNgBrAdLeY7: Finally, which is the best METHOD, to farm the player's final class set? I am not interested in runewords, but for the set. And as i see, the entire looting system has changed drastically. Old tough looting customers, as i already said before, are not what they used to be, now... Only areas of 85 level in hell? Or there are better places/enemies/whatever?
Certain items fall more often from certain bosses than others. If you're looking for Trang-Oul, do Mephisto and Baal on hell, that's where it falls most often.

liquidsnakehpks: it depends on luck as well i had a high level mf sorc , only nightmare Andariel and hell baal dropped good stuff for me , the real shocker was when the summoner dropped a soj during the quest run
I remember the first time I saw an SOJ, after knowing for a long time that it was the standard for currency. I was very, very underwhelmed.

Early on it was considered too strong, but later when you have much better items, it's sorta meh.

I recall playing a mod of D2 where the sorceress would be kicking while getting all the benefits of a hand-held weapon/item, and in the first dungeon the boss monster ALWAYS dropped a stone of Jordon... So i went a second run and got a second one. Yeah there was a boost of power, but not really that much... Honestly you get a better boost from a shrine if the duration of the shrine is long enough...

But i can't help but be underwhelmed with most of D2 and most of the mods...

edit: Heh... quickly made a 2Mb animated gif that cycles through the entire equipment, too bad it's too big to upload here...

I confirm it. At exactly 33% magic find, sets and uniques drop regularly. I even found Skin of the Vipermagi in Countess dungeon 3, Nightmare. What a sweet drop/loot! If i find that other belt with +1 skills too, i will be an exquisite powerhouse, but that one is elite item, not exceptional (which means hell only, logically).

Something tells me this time i am going to be adequately prepared, items-wise, for hell mode.

For some reason or code error, a small percentage of magic find yields better results, than higher one... I don't know. Maybe that or i suddenly got super lucky. But the frequency is noticeable, of good drops, now... I can't ignore this fact.

From what I remember, MF had heavy diminishing returns.
Some in-depth info on MF can be found here.
.... and this is why I stopped playing Diablo II.

It went from randomly adventure to farm-chess.
Paradox no longer. As per official sources and wiki material, some point down the updates, Magic Find got DIMINISHING RETURNS! In plain, short words, the chance for uniques, sets and rares DIMINISH accordingly, while the magic find sum is being RAISED! From one point onwards, the more magic find, the LESS the chance for ANY other item rarity, blues/magic aside...

I have a QUESTION, though. Arreat Summit page says, the sum above which diminishing returns apply over, is 10% magic find. Diablo wiki and magic find guides, say 110% magic find, instead! WHICH one? According to the graph Sarisio posted here before, it seems to be around 30+ percent, which incidentally, is the sum I notice and posted that i get more sets and uniques at!

Seeing as it's +10% MF, then it's logical to think that becomes 110% (because you start at 100% baseline of normally finding magical items)...

The dimishing returns does not mean your chance for rares and uniques go down, it just doesnt go up that fast while the one for magic is proportional to MF.
This still means the more MF the better your chance of rares and uniques, but the chance to get whites goes "down".

Nope. My dead man, used to get swarmed in hell with all types of whites, especially cracked and damaged ones, at 100+ magic find (my equipment total magic find bonus was near 105).

While my new running dog, at 33% magic find bonus from equipment, got kinky and loaded with uniques and sets. Somehow, 33 seems to be a very special and magic number, a real sweet spot...

This was pure bad luck with one char and now more luck. Probabilities arent with just "few" runs. The numbers and formulas are known and you can see it in the graphs, too.
In probability you can only make real statements after huge amount of runs. This is probability and subjective feeling ;)

People used to believe in magic find special values back in the day as well, (think 351 was supposed to be special) and although the rumor persists to today, there was no evidence that one number was really ever better than a lesser value.

Back in the day, I had a 99 MF sorceress, Had her magic find in the 400's and I'm pretty sure I found more than with just 300 than with 200. The rule of thumb is to equip as much as doesn't gimp you for your target.
I remember ... Pindleskin?
This game is dead and burried for like 13years for me.
I'll never ever play it again ... if I really want some awesomess I'll play the free but wonderful Path of Exile, which I quitted after 3 years of playing.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Nope.
hohiro is correct.
I think MF does actually help, if you wanna gamble and feel like living dangerously while being level 400 or above....or gamble while having only ten thousand gold and feel like burn the world
Well, at least, some of the items i got this time round are both HOT and OP. As well as in high demand for trading (but i am going to keep). That "Kelpie Snare" on my Merc, or that "Skin of Vipermagi" on my dog, seem to work just right for me. My clay golem slowing also adds to kelpie, enemies fight like old ladies now... Soon i will be in Hell again and hopefully, well geared, also. About runs, i didn't do nearly as many as 1000, which is the regular BEGINNING for true veterans (especially hell runs and boss runs), but i am quite sure my total runs, mostly nightmare, were near 300, counting dead man in AND including bosses and of course, no SOJ from Andy...

If you insist it was my luck, i won't disagree, damned thing seems to be bugged for me, especially in real life...

If devil breaks a leg and i die again by some miracle (and i say miracle because with the gear i have i need a miracle, a serious lag like before or a moment of carelessness to die, only...), i am going to put Single Player at 1.07 (found guides and exploits for getting easily every loot you desire, before magic find was changed to have diminishing values) and then convert to 1.09, my all times favorite version. And stay there. Single P.
