Wizardry 1-8
I don't know what the rights issues are, but this feels like as much of a no brainer as Ultima and Might of Magic were. The foundational CRPGs or the early gaming era.
Just coming here to say Wizardry crossed my mind again...
It's 2024
Definitely always thinking about this series and would love to see the rest of the games added
Just coming here to say Wizardry crossed my mind again...
While I think these games should absolutely be made available here, the sad reality is that I fear this series (at least the earlier entries) have complicated licensing issues. Worse still, the Wizardry license itself is, I believe, in the hands of a mobile game company at the time of writing.
Come on GOG!
for the 40th anniversary lets get these on here!
DO IT. DO IT NOW!
Honestly I would be beyond impressed if they were even able to make them run on modern systems. We're talking a gap of 40 YEARS for the first half of the series.
Would love to see these games ;-; would buy them instantly
This is the biggest gap in the GOG's classic crpg library. I know it's doable technically since a collection with 1-5 plus more was released for the PC around 20 years or so ago.
Wizardry 1-5 -- great idea! I wonder if the Japanese own the license?
We need Wizardry 1-5!!!
They should do this one first:
Wizardry: Llylgamyn Saga is a remake of the first three Wizardry games: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, Knight of Diamonds, and Legacy of Llylgamyn. As in the original games, the player can create characters choosing from five races and eight classes, and level them up by exploring the maze and fighting monsters, finding and buying items in process.
Monster graphics have been updated, and dungeons have been given textures, but the player can also opt for original graphics with wireframe dungeons. An auto-mapping feature has been added. The player can also transfer characters between the three scenarios.
I keep hoping that I will see I-V released here.
I loved Wizardry 1 on the Apple II. I'd snap up a 1-5 bundle in a second if it was available.
It's kinda crazy that the first 5 games, some of the best RPGs ever made, are not on a site called Good Old Games.
It's been YEARS since I added my voice here... I already mentioned it in the 1-5 Wizardry Wish list... but yes, it would be great to get the rest of the Wizardry games here; especially since the post Wizardry 8 games are appearing here (which seems as though some kind of agreement has been reached with the current license holders of the "Wizardry" franchise)
No Wizardry! GOG, what have you been doing for the past 6 years!
When will you add Wizardry?
Did anyone here know when casting a spell in Wizardry I if you type the first letter of the spell it gives you a list of all spells you have that start with that letter and amount left?
So oldschool. 1-5 needed.
I'd love to see the complete Wizardry series here too. I have 6-8 but the completionist in me wants the rest!
Wizardry 1 (the PC version) had a bug that made it nearly impossible; overall your characters' scores are supposed to mostly rise as they level up until they get old. But in the PC edition these scores drop almost every level. This would need to be fixed... or you could use the Commodore 64 version instead, which works fine. The Apple II version also works but has much poorer graphics (though it is the "authentic" original version, if people feel they need that).
I believe there's some weird legal thing about getting the previous Wizardry games on here... but I am throwing down my vote for Wizardry as well.
I doubt rewriting it to avoid the primitive DRM would be all that hard there have been other games much more complicated with muc h more code to the. I too would like the complete set of Wizardry to go with my complete set of Ultima games and the complete set of Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic....
The main problem with releasing Wizardry 1-5 is probably the copy protection. I bought 1-5 about 10 or 15 years ago (maybe more?) in a boxed set of 5 3.5" floppies. The way the games were set was that you had to boot from the original floppy, make a game disk before the first play, and then play from the game disk. But every time you wanted to play, you had to load the original floppy as it relied on the drive reading an actual physical defect on the floppy to confirm that it was indeed a legit copy. I *think* i've seen cracked copies (not sure) but probably trying to reverse engineer the game would be quite the job considering the source code may not be available anymore and running a dump on it to get either ML or C (or whatever was used to program it originally), would require some pretty master coders to read and decipher given the age of the game. One of the early re-releases of 'Pools of Radiance' (Wizardworks D&D Gold Box Collection CD) was unplayable without jumping through a ton of hoops and even then, it didn't quite work properly as whoever packaged it didn't do it properly and it couldn't be installed to the C:\ drive and trying to get it to run properly from the A:\ drive was problematic as well as I recall. Needless to say I was quite overjoyed when GOG put out a proper re-release. :)
This needs to happen. Classic series.
Is there a juridistical problem as to why Wizardry 1-5 isn't on GOG already, but 6-8 is? Does a different, non-cooperative company hold the rights for 1-5? the Wizardry ye olde skool Big Box collections are a little too rare for my taste on amazon and ebay, not to mention the doxbox configuration hassle! =S
Im all for this. Its been needed on GOG for a long time. There are 3 big name classic RPGs that defined the genre. Wizardry, Might and Magic, and Ultima. This really needs to happen.
Want 1-5 as well :)
We've got the entire Ultima series... Might and Magic... it only makes sense for GOG to have the Wizardry series as well.
Wizardry 1-5 I need for my ultimate CRPG collection! Pretty Please!
The Ultimate Wizardry Archives, which is games 1-7, would be fantastic.
+1 for Wizardry 1 - 5
Please release Wizardry 1-5
Really considering buying the wizardry games but without the first ones it just feels like wasted money. Hope 1-5 comes soon.
Hoping to see Wizardry 1-5 on GOG.com soon. Maybe with a Wizardry 1-8 promotion as well? I'd definitely buy the whole set at once then.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is one my all time favorites. I owned it on NES when I was a kid. Me and some graph paper, I mapped the entire game. Never had so much fun.
1-5 now! : )
6-8 are here, but what I really want are 1-3! Those are classic games!

$5.99 for Wizardry 8 is a bit low, I'd say. I'd prefer to see 1 - 8 go for around (and at least) $20 as a "complete" set (including all the bonus content on Wizardry Gold if someone wants to install all that madness onto their hard drive).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizardry#Collections - I'm guessing the first 7 games would appear as part of "The Ultimate Wizardry Archives" (prob. 9.99), then Wizardry 8 would appear as standalone (5.99).
I just finished M&M7 and I'd really love to play Wizardry 8 now that I'm in a old school RPG mood! :D
Wizardry 8 is essentially IMPOSSIBLE to find these days. This is the perfect game for GOG to carry. I'd buy it immediately.
Would buy Wizardry as soon as it came here. Please get it here soon
