Prince of Persia
This game is NOT yet in the catalogue. Even though Jordan Mechner released source code of the Apple II version from 1989, the original DOS version from 1990 or any other port of it is nowhere to be found. There are, however, a couple of free implementations out there. Check out www.princed.org/ for example. There used to be FreePrince, and there is MININIM and there is SDLPoP. Given the free nature of those first/original version of Prince of Persia, GOG should work on getting e.g. SDLPoP into the catalogue! It can be built and runs (natively) on Windows, macOS and Linux.
One of the old classics, still missing from GOG.
Would be nice to have this here.
How can PoP 1 (MS-DOS) not be on GOG already? This old classic can be played on RetroArch with even better controls and filters. It could be brought in as a MS-DOS Games Package, not just on its own. This game needs its own 3D revision unlike the actual 3D fake prince game series. Tomb Raider 1 actually shows off what the real prince's game would have looked like, with the wobbly ceiling / floor plates (and all!).
+1 to keep this alive, love this one since kid - even never finishing, and the second is still so beautiful ...
Would love to see the original 2 here. Heck, even 3D!
Absolutely needed here.
I remember when I saw it first I couldn't believe pixels could move that beautifully.
I agree with those surprised that all the new ones are here but not the originator of it all.
This is as good-old-gamey as it can get.
Please GOG, make it so.
I was also surprise that the 1989 game is not available
Do you mean the original from 1988-1990, the 2008 one that has no sub-title, or another one?
How come the newer ones are here but not the actual Good Old Games? seriously, just bring 1 and 2.
GoG how can you not add this :|)
Guys you can give it a try to an open-source port of Prince of Persia that runs natively on Windows and Linux: SDLPoP. I just played the first 5 levels and looks good: www.popot.org/get_the_games.php?game=SDLPoP
Of course it should be a mandatory title on gog list!
The original 1989 one and its sequels would be amazing.
First game I ever played. Would love to see this on GOG someday!
I hope for it on gog. Until then www.myabandonware.com/game/prince-of-persia-pd Please add.
Three days ago, Prince of Persia made 30 years old! How does GOG still not have it here?!
Is this for the original 2D platformer games? Please edit Thread Title if so.
This is the version where you have an hour to kill Jaffar? Then your timer ends with the next short portion of the game.
PoP was the sh*t before Assassin's Creed!
I only have a modest hope that I will have a remastered whole series of PoP.
PoP 1 & 2 for all OS
I'll buy it 100% on GOG! =)
I love this series, but I feel that the original game is still the best. Although I own several editions of it, I am still partial to the original releases through systems like the Apple II and PC and would love to see them on GOG.
One vote from me.
Seems everyone played that good old game in the past ....
on PC and AMIGA :D
Is it this game you guys are talking about? :) www.princeofpersia1.com/ : )
I honestly don't see why this can't happen, the "reboot" of Prince of Persia for the PS3 had the original included as a bonus. So it's not like whoever owns the franchise now doesn't give a c*** about the classic versions.
Yes! Please add this!
The DOS Version can't compete with the Master System Version, but still this was the first Prince of Persia I have ever played... matter of fact it probably was the first game I remember actively playing :D
I think the Amiga 500 version had the best sound although The IBM PC Sound Blaster version was probably about the same. Just find a way to bypass the hourglass protection or let you choose any hour glass to continue to the next level.
I think the first game now, should have the DOS graphics but also a Retro Mode that gives it the original Apple II graphics. Sound effects optional however as the Apple II sounds grated my ears. The DOS sounds could be used with the Apple graphics.
PLEASE GOG! Make an awesome pack with the original trilogy!
-Prince of Persia
-Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame
-Prince of Persia 3D
does the abandonia version remove the copy protection puzzle with the manual letters over the cider bottles? Psychedelic Eyeball mentioned on his POP 1 LP that the cracked version still had it but it was buggy. I don't know which cracked version he was referring to whether abandonia or another abandonware site.
I hope they remove that stupid copy protection puzzle now that it is now longer needed. I also hope it uses the old 8 bit graphics from the DOS version. (the prince wears white PJs instead of the Mac version and sequel's red robes and blue/white roll of toilet paper on his head.)
Yes and please!
Brings back so many memories of my childhood. Definitely one of the best games I played.
I'd love to see the UNIX version of this game. Ya, very obscure. It is compiled from x86 assembly and several versions of PoP source code are available to study from the author. As it is CPU code, shouldn't be too much of an issue modifying it to run on Linux and x86. Ask for volunteers from the Linux community, we will get it done. IF GOG's people can locate the darn thing.
Guys, bring this and PoP 2 back please. A wonderful idea would be to get Ubi to port the Mac versions to PC as they look much better than the DOS releases.
Please, bring this game to GOG, guys. How much we must wait? :(
This classic needs to be on here! What is the hold-up in getting the rights and getting it on GOG?
I'd buy this just for some wallpapers, I'm a huge fan of the series, a PoP 1+2+3D pack would be amazing.
the best place for this one and the sequel is www.abandonia.com/en/search_abandonia/prince+of+persia...and its free to download
@neumi5694 no, it's also on PS3 though. And there is an Android version (I assume on iOS as well) but it really sucks. it's more of a flash game than a port of the XLB/PSN version.
Does the revamped XBL version also exist for the PC?
You can download this game here:www.bestoldgames.net/eng/old-games/prince-of-persia.php(Jordan Mechner, the creator of Prince of Persia, shared this link on his website, so there shouldn't be legal problems.) It would be great if GOG could add it to their library so you could download a version that runs on modern systems without need for additional emulators.
This game: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia_%281989_video_game%29. An epic game that i'd love to play again.
i cant belive this doesn't have more votes
Too bad the source code is in (unreadable) Apple II assembly code. As soon as anyone releases an adaptation to a decent language I'll start a port to XNA/C# whatever. In the meantime, I'd gladly replay whatever version GOG releases =)
Jordan just published the source code on github!jordanmechner.com/blog/2012/04/source
