Using a modified Doom engine, Heretic was one of the first first-person games to feature inventory manipulation and the ability to look up and down. It also introduced multiple gib objects spawned when a character suffered a death by extreme force or heat. Previously, the character would simply crumple into a heap. The game used randomized ambient sounds and noises, such as evil laughter, chains rattling, distantly ringing bells and water dripping in addition to the background music to further enhance the atmosphere. All music in the game was composed by Kevin Schilder. An indirect sequel, Hexen, was released a year later. Heretic II was released in 1998, which served as a direct sequel continuing the story.
Hexen: Beyond Heretic is a dark fantasy first-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software, published by id Software, and distributed by GT Interactive beginning on October 30, 1995. It is the sequel to 1994's Heretic, and the second game in Raven Software's "Serpent Riders" series. The title comes from the German noun "Hexen", which means "witches" (in plural) or the verb "hexen" which means "to cast a spell".
Heretic II is a dark fantasy action-adventure game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision in 1998 continuing the story of Corvus, the main character from its predecessor, Heretic.
Using a modified Quake II engine, the game features a mix of a third-person camera with a first-person shooter's action, making for a new gaming experience at the time. While progressive, this was a controversial design decision among fans of the original title, a well-known first-person shooter built on the Doom engine. The music was composed by Kevin Schilder. Gerald Brom contributed conceptual work to characters and creatures for the game. This is the only Heretic/Hexen video game that is unrelated to id Software, apart from its role as engine licenser.
Heretic II was later ported to Linux by Loki Software and to the Amiga by Hyperion Entertainment and Macintosh by MacPlay.

ghosthardware These games are far and away the most glaring omission from GOG's catalogue in my opinion. We need them available - even if Heretic II is stuck in legal hell can we at least get Heretic, Hexen (plus Deathkings) and Hexen II (plus Portal). Just add Heretic II if/when possible. I'll even pay separately for it!

Kaenthur The rights Publishing Rights are with idSoftware (aka Bethesda) (source: www.finder.com.au/id-software-talks-heretic-hexen-and-commander-keen), so there should be no issue to put here since they already make available other games.

Gaerzi They've been available on Steam for nearly 13 years (since August 2007). I guess GOG just isn't interested in selling them.

Boris_Hauer I once had Heretic II. Stopped playing during the final boss' fight. Never completed it. Still thinkin' about it. Sure, if the game comes up on GOG, I'll catch the chance to finally end this game from my past!

flugalgourmet I have Heretic II in the Linux version and played the crap out of it. Unfortunately that was a while ago and it doesn't work anymore. Would love a fresh (non winelib) Linux port or a Windows version that runs on Wine.
Apesmith Oh, yes, please! With the fantasy setting, I actually preferred these to the Doom series. I still fire up Hexen on the Sega Saturn from time to time to get a fix. And if I'm willing to play that chugging mess of a port, I'd gladly pay to play a much cleaner PC version.

symmetryofzero These are avalible on Steam and they are sloppy ports (Hexen II needs work and does not include the mission pack. No Heretic II on Steam either), I'd rather have all of them on GOG! GOG does a better job at consolidating expansion packs as well. Please GOG Hexen is one of my favorite games!
