Have all the problems bean fixed on gog? I heard they had to start over on the dub, and that items were named the wrong thing. And why dosn't the gog version have all the dlc like steam?

Durante took the work to fix the game (don't know if you know him, it's the guy who made the dark souls 1 fix back in the day) and did a great job to fix most issues and the likes (he also implemented some couch co-op feature, albeit still buggy).

As for the translation I don't know anything other than NISA redid the translation from scratch, but I'm not sure how far better it has become.

As for your last question regarding DLC, there are all: all the consumables are part of the ultimate resource bundle DLC, which is also sold on steam, the only difference is that you can't buy them individually on GOG as you can on steam (which I'd still suggest against do so, since those are just consumables and everything can be gotten in the vanilla game). The only relevant extra about the ultimate resource bundle DLC is a costume for a character, which you can buy individually here too :)
The GOG version still has the problems of:

a) it's missing Achievements, which Durante specifically said he isn't going to add, even though he easily could do so if NISA paid him to do it (which they should, but won't).

b) There are DLCs that are missing for no good reason simply NISA won't bother to offer them for sale. But no one knows why NISA refuses to offer them, because they've never publicly given an answer as to why they refuse.

What are the missing DLC? I can only think about the consumable ones, but all of them can be purchased as an AIO through the resource bundle (and all of them, aside the aforementioned costume can still be bought separately).

If there is a pill I still can't digest, is the Adoll soldier costume, which was pre-order exclusive ._.

Kyousuke.: What are the missing DLC?
Considering gogdb's changelog the Adol DLC was updated alongside with the core game and the other DLCs so it should be here somewhere.

I borrowed it from my friend for PS4 and it is at me since a year lol. I planned to buy it on GOG but the distribution was a mess. I guess I will check it during the next discount. I'm curious about the fixed performance problems.

But wasn't that a pre-order only item, meaning that we can't purchase it any way? I'm asking because I really wanted to get it, but the customer service (obviously) replied that since the publisher has decided to not distribuite it otuside of pre-order, it's not meant to be on sale :(

Something like that. It is not listed on GOG and there is no option to purchase it on any platform. There are other DLC which is impossible to get anymore, like the pirate or swimsuit costume DLCs. There was minor distribution problems with the HQ texture pack DLC as well but that got solved reading the other topics. Honestly I not really care about any of those DLCs and despite how much I love the story and the gameplay I feel like the handling of publishing not deserve the full price they ask for. :/

I heard that the pirate costume wasn't available for pc at all, neither on the steam version (although somebody shared the files in one old thread, but it got locked/deleted).

As for the asking price, that's NISA for you. The saddest thing is that all of this would have never happened if XSEED was in charge of this game.

I'm now scared about cold steel III, due to NISA snatching all the established franchises on the west thanks to XSEED :/

On consoles the pirate DLC was available at least lol. I'm not familiar with the publishers, most of the times I buy games physically when my job send me to Japan and that is how I have all the Ys games including Ys 9 but excluding Ys 8 which is my friend's actually. I never was into turn based games so I haven't tried other Falcom games. Haven't replayed any of the Ys games either though except for the only game I not have personally lol. Ys 8 is way too good even compared to the other eight Ys games altogether. Perfect balance of story telling and gameplay, action and exploring. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is the chaos around the PC version. XD

Yeah I was talking steam/GOG pirate dlc wise. kinda OT, but must be nice to be sent for work in there: I tried to find a job there a few years ago, but ended up abandoning the idea due to family problems which restrained be for the time being.

Did you try Ys9? Is it good? I can't wait for that one since I go all crazy when I hear about transformations in games, so eh.

As for skipping ys8 on pc, I can't blame you: both the base price of the game, along the crashing issues stopped me from getting it on release day, barring the pre-order dlc which I've forver lost, after buying the gmae now :/

I never had luck with online jobs, not even with official looking ones like YouTube or Steam. I'm better in the real life works lol.

About Ys 9, it is like Memories of Celceta compared to Seven. Technically it is Ys 8, same flash guard and dodge mechanic and skills work the same way. Interactions and quests happen in a town much like Castaway Village and while things like that aren't required it is needed for the true ending and to unfold the story, raids to defend that "hub", etc. There is a party and you control one of the characters from that while being able to change anytime. He good against that, she good against this. Nothing new gameplay-wise.

The new gameplay element is the unique ability of the characters. One can reach places the others aren't by special jumping, running on walls or gliding, or can interact with objects that otherwise good for nothing. A little like how Dana is required to use essence mechanisms in the ruins mid Ys 8. That is for exploring only though. The fights are the same.

What bugs me a bit is the story. The locations are a bit lackluster and just like in the case of Tokyo Xanadu the places are all similar without unique settings. There is a lot of passive talking that not really build the story and feels more like a rushed content to extend the length or the lore but only with obvious facts you know without talking about it. Stupid example but imagine Dana start talking about using primordials for carrying things and doing so for 10 minutes. XD

Overall it isn't bad but falls behind the other Ys games. I was about 3/4 of the game when I started feeling the Ys vibe and I'm not sure if that was there till the end. A bit like Ys Seven's last segment when you fight the dragon gods and despite it is part of the lore you think deep inside "here again? just get over with it". Interestingly my friend is really into it despite how boring Ys 8 was for him, he's comparing the game to Devil May Cry. I'm really considering giving the disc to him in exchange for Ys 8. :)

Nah I wasn't talking about online jobs, but irl ones (was thinking on moving there as an italian teacher but things went downhill for some reasons).

As for the game, I see. I'm still behind ys games, I own all of them beside IX for obvious reasons but I took a pause after finishing ys I, II, and ark of napishtim. I'll definitely have to go start from scratch felghana. XD

Ah sorry, I misunderstood that part haha.

Luckily the Ys games quite replayable because mostly it is all about action and you can always put some challenges in. Despite this I only replayed Ys 8 only lol. I'm planning to do it again with infinity mode enabled.

I'm still puzzled honestly, because I don't know if it would be better to go from game release order or chronological order: I checked a site all about this, but I'm still indecisive on the matter.

That is the usual dilemma in the case of long runnig series. Ys games luckily not really build on one another so you miss nothing no matter where you start. :)
