Well, I wasn't really making fun of him. Just his nick. And maybe just a little of him, for picking it. Even more so if getting his name wrong ( right? ) ticks him off. :D

Nihon-Falcom makes excellent games. Way back in the day I played Ys 1-4 on the TurboGrafx and Ys 1 on the Sega Master System. They were awesome.

While I haven't studied the whole Nightwolve/Wyrdwad/Deuce/XSEED situation in detail, NW certainly seems to have interesting tendency to blow things out of proportion and to burn bridges. If I remember correctly, years ago he made his homepage redirect the users to pornographic website if they arrived through link from Romhacking.net.

I also found out at the time that his translation patch could be used on the digital release of Ys I & II Complete, which was available on Japanese website. This free trial version had 60 minute limit, which could be removed by purchasing the full game. However, Nightwolve's patch actually removed this time limit making it even easier to pirate the game.

I believed (and still do) that this was unintentional and wanted to tell Nightwolve so that he could fix this issue. However, his forum, his shoutbox, even his email address were behind paywall. It seemed that I should give a monetary donation just for the privilege of telling him that his patch was making pirating Ys I & II Complete easier than ever. While I don't have problem with people working on fan translation scene asking for donations, NW's approach to it made me bit uncomfortable.

However, this issue didn't seem to be common knowledge and so I decided to let it pass. Now, years later I have heard about NW falling out with Deuce and the whole XSEED drama. I wonder if Nightwolve has ever considered the possibility that without being such a rage-filled drama queen (to put it bluntly) he might be currently employed as programmer at XSEED.

XSEED's current PC programmer, Sara, has been very good at her work but having another coder to share the workload could really help. NW could have been a worthy addition with his skills and experience if only he hadn't ruined his chances with his antics.

NightWovle does tend to come out swinging. I should have learned that's *not* the right way win friends and influence people.

Then you're a lot more tolerant of those kinds of things than I am. In my eyes, fan efforts, be they fan games or fan translations are what they are because the sole motivation behind them is love of the series and the desire to let more people experience and enjoy them. (hence the "fan"-part) Once money enters the equation, even as "donations", the venue stops being a fan effort and becomes a commercial business, in this case one that makes money on the back of someone else's intellectual property and one that Falcom was in its rights to issue a C&D to.

That's purely based on NW's decision to try and draw monetary compensation out of it and not based on his inability to avoid coming across as Alex Jones' angry little brother.

First of all, the two thing have no releation with each other. The fan translated for fans, the XSEED translated for redistribution.

The PC version of Ys wasn't available for non-japanese region. Even if you have a patch, you can't legally buy the game itself. The XSEED bought it for release on non-japanese regions. Don't blame them. They even re-translated the whole game to be more accurate storywise. For example, the fan translation of Ys Origin was not in sync with the Ys I & II.

The next thing I say is a little offtopic... but most of the Ys games not even made by Nihon Falcom (only supervised it). Translations based on these games isn't really go with the Nihon Falcom products, and the Ys 3 / Oath in Felghana is the best example.
