Where is the "configuration menu"?

What are the controls for setting a quick item so yo don't have to go into the menu each time you want to heal?

When do you get to warp between save crystals?

The configuration menu is accessed from the GOG Galaxy window, under 'More', 'Other'.
Or by running config.exe or config_dx9.exe from the installation directory.

In that same menu you can also set a quick key for items, the item you can select from the game's equipment window.

You get a Wing of Alma from a chest once you make your way to the Grana-Vallis Mountain, which is located to the far north of the map, just after you get to the human town, which is pretty early in the game. Use this item to port to any save point previously used.

How does the special attack recharging work, is it faster if I kill enemies?

I don't remember actually killing enemies having any effect. (There is one accessory that provides a benefit when you kill an enemy, but that's different.)

At low levels, the only way to recharge your special attack, except for using up a rare item, is to damage enemies; each hit will charge up your special attack a little. Note that this happens even in boss fights, so you can sometimes use your special attack more than once per boss. (There's at least one boss fight where this is probably the easiest way to hit the boss.)

If you power up your weapon enough, you will eventually slowly recharge even when you are not hitting enemies, though I think you may still need to have that weapon equipped. If you max it out, your special attack will recharge quickly, but it can take a while to get enough materials (forgot what it was called), especially on Nightmare difficulty.

If I remember correctly from the PS2 version, those wings are found before the first point where you have to backtrack. Also, it is only in the English PC version where they can be used to teleport; that ability was not present in other versions of the game.

I'm kinda getting my ass kicked right now, it's pretty hard to avoid getting hit compared to earlier games I think but I guess I'll just have to grind a bit more.

They do, actually. In previous releases they were actually translated to say slow, instead of heavy, which may have underlined that effect more.

Did anyone else encounter this bug?
-The game gets stuck right as you board the romun ship (GOG version, Windows 10) due to NPC allies no being able to climb stairs here - for some reason a workaround is to take screenshots as it makes the character move while the game "freezes" for a second while the screenshot is created (the bug happens again during the escort mission on the ship).

One last question - If I don't want to grind to level up each sword, which one should I focus on? Or will I need to level them all up?

I had the same problem with the ship on a recent play-through, tabbing out of the game and back in got the girls moving again, a little at a time.

Personally, I went with the the lightning sword, first, but that was on Nightmare Catastrophe, and the electric special really killed a lot of stuff. Ultimately, it's useful to upgrade all of them, completely, but the wind sword I used less in the later levels. The last stage of upgrading them requires 500k emel, each, so that's really only worth it in a catastrophe run, if you want to kill a little bonus enemy called Majuunun, since you can buy stat seeds in that mode, otherwise I'd consider it too much trouble. The achievement for killing it is broken, at the moment, though, but there have been some recent patches to indicate that they're working on it. All in all, it depends on how far you're willing to go, farming all that emel takes ages, the better part of a day if you find the best spot.

I think the requirement is higher on other difficulties, it was 100k each on this one.
