I've noticed that the Ryu Mod Manager is not compatible with this version of Y0 and wanted to know if it's possible to install mods manually.

AFAIK Ryu Mod Manager isn't compatible with the engine that was used for Yakuza 0, but you don't need it for those games. It's for the Dragon engine games (Yakuza 6, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Judgment and Lost Judgment).

Okay, but that still leaves unclear the question as to whether or not the GOG versions of those games are compatible with the mods that were made for the Steam versions of these Yakuza games.

Are the GOG versions compatible with those mods? Or, are they not?

That's a good question. I'd also like to know.

Would you perhaps be willing to test that out and then let us know what's up with that? :)

I tried the music restoration mod and the 3D vision fix mod for Yakuza 0. Both work.

I tried the music restoration mod and the Hiroki Narimiya Restoration Patch (Restores the performance of an actor who was replaced because he made his own candy. Apparently that's a cardinal sin in Japan). Both worked.

The music restoration patch for Yakuza 6 works, but the green filter removal mods do not because the Ryu Mod Manager gave me the error "Warning: Game version is unsupported. Please use the latest Steam version of the game. RyuModManager will still generate the load order, but the game might CRASH or not function properly". When I attempt to launch the game with the mods installed, the game refuses to load or give me an error. So as far as I can tell, mods do work with the games on the old engine, and as for the Dragon engine games (Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6), mods that don't require the Ryu Mod Manager work, but mods that require the Ryu Mod Manager don't work because the Ryu Mod Manager needs to be updated to support the GOG versions of the games.

That said, someone said that a free cam mod didn't work, though I don't remember what game it was for. If it was for a Dragon engine game, that would make sense. If it's for one of the other games, that would indicate that some mods may work with them and some may not.

Thanks for testing that stuff out and for telling us the results, finkleroy.

I just noticed there is a 4K Font mod for Yakuza 0. The default font for that game has been bugging me since it's so blurry and annoying to look at. I hope that one works with the GOG version.

Maybe I will test it out soon.

EDIT: I just tested Yakuza 0 with the 4k font mod and it seems to work with the GOG version (although I haven't played with it on for a long time, I just ran the game for a few minutes with the mod successfully enabled).

Hi, even though this has been marked as solved, I thought I would clear a few things up from this thread.

Firstly, Yakuza 0 does have RMM support despite it not being a Dragon Engine game. The Yakuza 3-5 remasters also use separate engines and are still supported.

Secondly, the GOG versions of these games are not supported. RMM checks the game exe's hash to validate it before it is used, but the Steam exes and the GOG exes have completely different hashes. There is a pull request for this on RMM's GitHub page, but there hasn't been an update since 2022 so it is unlikely this will be changed anytime soon (though there is an updated fork with some GOG support that can be built from source).

Finally, many mods made specifically for RMM won't work manually. This is because RMM can read mods as loose files, whereas manually installed mods must be archived in the PAR format (which is the archival format created for the Yakuza games and therefore will need external tools to package something into that format).
