When i try to run Enemy Within i get a message the application stopped working.
Thats strange because enemy unknown works 100% fine.
I'm using Vista 32bit, intel core 2 duo, 4gb ram, GF 9650GT.
I tried reinstalling. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Try completely disconnecting your internet and see if the game will run then. Unfortunately the only fix in that particular situation is to disconnect the internet each time you start the game.

It's laptop using wifi to connect to the internet. So what should i do ??

I tried to star the game without connecting to the internet but it didn't help.
Tried to reinstall the game, move the XEW folder, hack the exe file to work on XP, and even using a "Patch", but it didnt help.

As i said Enemy Unknown works without a problem, so there must be some way to run Enemy Within.
Maybe i'm missing some app or something ??
I had a similiar problem with Bastion, but after instaling XNA it was fixed.
Any Idea ?

Did you try turning your WiFi off or disconnecting from your WiFi network?

Yes i did. Even tried disabling the drivers for it. didn't help.

The game has a log:

How about starting with manually copy/installing the "Secur32.dll" into your C:\Windows\system32\ directory? ...you can find the file here: http://www.dlldownloader.com/secur32-dll/

And then see what happened.
A secur32.dll error. You might have something wrong with the registry entry.

Try here:
https://www.solvusoft.com/en/files/missing-not-found-error/dll/windows/microsoft/msdn-disc-2939-3/secur32-dll/

Whatever you do, never download a dll from a third party. Ignore the ads telling you to download it.

Tried fixing it, but didn't find any error.
The game still doesn't work.

Any other ideas ?
secur32.dll being missing or corrupt points to issues with the operating system. Seeing that most people can run the game without a hitch, and your error dump doesn't point to the usual suspects (drivers), I'll have to assume that your Windows installation is shot.

I usually keep a backup of the entire system at hand; in lieu of that, you might consider doing a fresh windows install, though that's pretty excessive.

Micosoft support suggest using a tool to check system integrity:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/secur32dll-corrupted/9411cda1-77c0-4454-92f9-b4ee6fe88253

I have no idea if that one is included in Vista, though. When push comes to shove, reinstalling the OS might be the only solution.
Ok, i tried fixing the dll. Even did a clean instal of vista and it didnt help.
The same error.
Mayby i need so other aplication ?? I had a similiar problem with other games.
With Bastion needed xnafx31_redist.msi so it could work for example.

Hi
I had similar problem on windows 10, unknown would launch, within would not.
I could not figure out solution nor find answer on web.

Luckily I have found a solution, I use an external T.V. from my laptop via HDMI, I disconnected the T.V. and voila!
Once the game had launched successfully on the laptop screen only, It now works via HDMI.

Not sure why this was the case but hey, I hope this might help you.

Regards,

Miss Scotlyn Gooch
