I started a new game and the first tutorial objective, move the selected operative, cannot be completed.
I then tested a fresh campaign skipping the tutorial, but again, operatives cannot be moved.
I have tried searching for more information about this, and it appears to be a known problem.
Such posts reference waiting on the main menu for a My2K account timeout notice, but as the GOG release appears to lack My2K functionality, this second timeout notice never occurs.

Sufficed to say, this renders the game unplayable for me.

Currently using Wine-Staging 5.4 with dxvk 1.5.5
I have the exact same problem.

Game runs fine, no slutters thanks to rojimboo tips in this forum (can't post link apparently) but I can't pass the tutorial nor the 1st mission...

(Lutris wine 5.2 and DXVK 1.6)
I was able to make the game playable by installing the War of the Chosen expansion and running that binary instead.

I suppose this does not help with the base game, but at least the expansion is now working for me.

The same problem here. Wine Staging 5.5 + dxvk 1.6. I wonder if it only happens with Wine?

Thanks for a tip. I will try with the War of the Chosen once found so much disk space ;-).

Btw, does XCOM 2:WOTC need to be installed on top of XCOM 2?

Btw2, did you initially also have broken (and slow) rendering with pure Wine (without dxvk)?

Yes.
WotC will automatically install without asking for an install path if XCOM2 is already installed, like any other DLC.
It is installed as a sub-folder within the XCOM2 directory (XCOM 2/XCom2-WarOfTheChosen/), is run from a separate binary within that folder (XCOM 2/XCom2-WarOfTheChosen/Binaries/Win64/XCom2.exe), and has a unique save game folder (Documents/My Games/XCOM2 War of the Chosen/).
Custom characters from XCOM2 are automatically imported on first run, from what I noticed.

Yes. The bloom effects enveloping the screen were quite overt, as was the seemingly at random missing textures.
That is why I installed dxvk.

My installation indicates the expansion requires 37.9GiB
With the base game, this results in an XCOM2 folder totalling 73.7GiB

I had the same issue....so I installed under Windows 7 and it complained that I did not have MS Virtual C++ lib 2013 version installed...once installed it worked.

I went back to Linux and installed the same file and now I can control the units. FYI, my wine install never complained about the missing dll...but this install fixed it

Also...it has to be the 64bit 2013 version of MS Virtual C++ lib to work.

One other note...I used winetricks to install the missing files and it did NOT work. I had to use the actual install package from ms

It worked! Thanks, I've been hunting lines in the logs to help me figure out what's wrong but I couldn't find anything useful, this actually helped.

EDIT: Well, now I got a different problem (that existed before, but I hadn't noticed it) of the game crashing during the cutscene after the tutorial mission. And if I choose to skip the tutorial it crashes during the first cutscene instead. The crash logs say:

"Warning: Warning, Using a non-qualified name (would have) found: SwfMovie gfxStrategyComponents.gfxStrategyComponents.StrategyComponents
Log: Missing cached shader map for material OverWorld_Terrain_Master, compiling.
Warning: Redscreen: Compiling OverWorld_Terrain_Master at run-time, please ensure this is part of the cooking process"
