If you want to install some steam mods, I strongly recommend installing X2WOTCCommunityHighlander before.

It has a catch though, you need to copy some files manually:

Inside the mod folder (\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\Mods\1134256495\), there's another folder named CookedPCConsole with 4 files:
Engine.upk
Engine.upk.uncompressed_size
XComGame.upk
XComGame.upk.uncompressed_size

You need to rename the game originals (better rename to overwrite) located in "\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\CookedPCConsole\" and copy the modded ones in that folder.

More tips:

Long War 2 is only for vanilla XCOM 2 (and it seems it will stay that way), but if you want something similar in WOTC (and you have the Tactical Legacy Pack DLC,, sorry but it's a prerequisite) there's some mods that will spice your game:

First of all X2WOTCCommunityHighlander. You will need it.

Then for the prerequisites:
[WOTC] New Promotion Screen by Default

After that, the two interesting mods:

With that and after unpack the mods in your mod folder, your DefaultModOptions.ini should look like this:

ActiveMods="NewPromotionScreenbyDefault"
ActiveMods="Missing_FX_Package_Resource"
ActiveMods="LightStrategyChanges"

That's only the bare bones you can achieve with it, there's a lot of other interesting mods. I'll keep posting some from time to time.

Thanks for these suggestions! I binged through my first campaign at 70 hours with only a few cosmetic mods. Will definitely be looking forward to playing a new campaign with some of these mods.
