Does anyone know if there are plans to release X4 on GoG at the same time as the Steam release? We have all previous X-games but it requires a few years of waiting before they become available, which kinda sucks.
No clue but wish for it :-)
Definitely write to the publisher that you'd love to see it come to gog on day 1. If they happen to be on the fence about it, a little public support can go a long way.
I'm not sure if it will be day 1, Egosoft usually releases their games with DRM first then after a year or two releases them DRM free also.
365 days later when the worst problems have been ironed out sounds acceptable to me.

GAH! Now I kind of feel like being a tester of the game. This thought leads me to think it would be nice if someone from Egosoft showed up on this forum and had a chat.

I made a community wishlist and made a post on the main page:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/x4_is_coming

I didn't even know about it until recently! Man I am pumped and I really hope it comes to GoG AND it's as moddable or better than X3!!

You could always go to egosoft and ask. They seem nice as long as you're not from the wrong political affiliations. They really don't like it when you apply standards equally to both parties, so just stay off the off topic boards. They're otherwise quite friendly and down to earth.

We never got the VR edition of rebirth... I sort of get that. But they did code in Rift support so why wouldn't they? I would love to see 4 on here, but if it has anything to do with VR then I doubt it will come.

Yes, what is the reason for the delay? Not 100% sure they will keep supporting the Oculus Rift? If that is it, then it is better not to bring it here as the Vive seems to be tied to Steam ONLY. Maybe it will come here a couple of days after the next update.... maybe, with luck.

I just found-out, It seems like singleplayer content is not supported in VR... so only the sandbox is VR playable :(
I'd love (pre-)ordering on GOG - even though my hardware would very likely not run the game - but seeing as how their forums Q&A or direct announcements have no mentioning of a GOG release whatsoever I'm quite disappointed. Egosoft is a bunch of amazing people but that "Steam-lock" really turns me off - especially if it takes another 3 years before they release on GOG again, which I hope won't take nearly as long....
No no no no! This time they will not wait that long I think, OK hope. How early to expect here realistically? Hmm, not before the worst time of hot fixing the game is over and they have had a chance to catch up on some sleep.

How soon it appears over here highly depends on steam sales and quite possibly how well their initial GOG debut went I guess - both figures us commons will hardly get details of. I know I bought their full catalogue despite having everything physical twice with the eXceptions of BtF and their first steam-locked AP and Rebirth which I could only aquire via GOG.
Regarding the hotfiXing thingy people could (and probably will) still complain about issues in Rebirth, even nowadays in vanilla GOG I happen to glitch through floors on stations every now and then...
Though according to the nightmare~ish stories you've heard about when they first released Rebirth that's fine by me, plus you respawn nicely. :) Considering the game and engine were built from scratch and presuming they're reusing/modifying the engine for Foundations I eXpect a much smoother eXperience for us players.
Well or for those on terms with Steam-DRM at least....

In any case the egosoft team said it on the English forum of their game. They are considering a gog out but not day one. So it's promising.

According to developer's response on the forum (as of 11.10.2018):
At the moment we only have plans to release on Steam. In the past, our release on Steam has been followed a year or so later by a release on GoG, but I can't guarantee that the same will be true this time around and no decision is likely to be reached any time soon.
In other words, they are not sure yet, but it seems in a year or so.
