I see... I guess support hasn't received enough complaints to do something about it. Well then, happy one year anniversary, Linux users. :(

Well I sure complained, hope everyone else here has too... GOG says: "Unfortunately, this is a known issue and we cannot fix the game by ourselves. The developers have been informed, but did not provide a patch yet."
I say: "Horseshit."
The GOG package is the only one with this defect, and all we need are the missing files - no "patch" required.
Why GOG can't do what I and a few others have already, i.e. copy the missing files into the correct locations, is pretty baffling. It's literally 5 minutes work + a reup.

Thanks for the... well wishes(?) ;)
As I'm still playing X3 regularly, I'm glad to see this thread's picking up attention again!
In case you're interested, the last I heard on the support ticket was Jan 8, 2016, noting that the issue was "currently waiting to be verified by our QA" and that they were "unfortunately unable to tell when that will happen."
Honestly, I stopped bothering after that point. It kind of felt like a brush off, and I have better things to do with my time. But more power to you if you want to pick up that torch with a new string of support complaints!
I've been playing with the XRM mod since then (which has a side effect of fixing the audio issue) and I highly recommend it for the extra content. But it's a damn shame the official release package has been broken for this long.

bravoman: Probably has more to do with legal bindings than the simplicity you mentioned. GoG may not have permission to modify any files provided to them by the developer, despite how simple the change actually is.
That may very well be. It may be that the issue was simply back-burnered either by the developers (or by GOG's QA team) because Linux and Mac users make up a pretty small slice of the game's user base. I've been playing with the XRM mod since then (which has a side effect of fixing the audio issue) and I highly recommend it for the extra content. But it's a damn shame the official release package has been broken for this long.

Oh my GOGness! A 7MB patch has finally arrived fixing this. Off to download unless you fixed it in a roundabout way already.
EDIT: Of course, I have no idea if the patch works fully as I have installed the X games in Windows but I next install will likely be on a Linux distro so I do care.

Hrm. I'm not seeing any patch downloads for Linux, and the main Linux installer version still seems to be 3.2C.
I do see a 7MB patch, but that (3.2D) is windows only, and seems to match up with the changelog entry from 07 July 2016.
Maybe there's some lag with this release showing up? Kinda careless to update the changelog for it already - but possible, I guess...

Using lgogdownloader, it starts to download: gog_x3_terran_war_pack_2.2.0.3.sh
The previous version is gog_x3_terran_war_pack_2.1.0.2.sh, so it might just be the version string hasn't been updated on the Linux card (Mac should be the same, but I don't know / haven't downloaded it).
2.1.0.2.sh is 8823.67MB on disk
2.2.0.3.sh is 8824.38MB according to lgogdownloader

I installed gog_x3_terran_war_pack_2.2.0.3.sh on Linux after noticing the update and it seems that both 00044.pck and 00144.dat are still missing/empty from the /game/addon/mov/ folder. Hopefully I've just been too eager to reinstall and the update will be pushed in the next day or so.

So I finally got gog_x3_terran_war_pack_2.2.0.3.sh downloaded (it was going super slow for some reason).
Comparing 2.1.0.2 to 2.2.0.3 the only changes of note are a few additional files:
data/noarch/languages/Czech/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/languages/Italian/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/languages/Japanese/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/languages/Polish/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/languages/Simplified Chinese/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/languages/Spanish/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/languages/Traditional Chinese/addon/mov/00044.pck
data/noarch/game/addon/mov/00044.pck is still missing and
data/noarch/game/addon/mov/00144.dat is still 0 bytes

I don't know. Apparently not?
I just unpacked the two files, ran diff on the directories, and those were the only game files changed (added, specifically).
edit: I still had 2.0.0.1, so I compared it against 2.1.0.2. 2.1.0.2 seemed to add some language files. 2.2.0.3 seemed to add a few that were left out.

Cheers for the heads-up, just saved me a pointless ~8GB download. This is ridiculous, how long have we been waiting to get the complete game now?
