Hello all,

I posted this in the general discussion for anyone not familiar with the game, but am reposting it here by request. I found some mods they recently started working on again.

Now that X3 is on GoG, I will post a link to the newest BSG mod I know of. Heck, I'll post the link to the newest Star Wars mod too.

X3 is a great space game because you can go through missions and such, or you can just go do your own thing and build an empire. There are ships out there from every sci fi franchise. At one point I made myself a starbase, made a huge fleet, and went out conquering. The best part about it was that my fleet included the Galactica armed with two squadrons of vipers, a cylon basestar with raiders, a star destroyer with tie fighters, a mon calamari cruiser with x-wings, the Enterprise galaxy class, the Defiant, some Romulan ships, and the Dominion ships. It was a hell of a site. I was able to set up battles against them too, so I made some appropriate battles in each franchise, but then made some against each other. So I had a star destroyer with tie fighters and fought against the Enterprise and the Defiant.

For any space, sci fi, and space combat nerd it's a great game. The mods can get a little complicated to install and get working properly, but there are a lot of guides on the forums to help you through it.

Star Wars:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=368892 - Go through the pages of the forum, I think there is a recent patch they released for it.

edit - And the ModDb link, which requires no sifting through forums: http://www.moddb.com/mods/mikhail-skatchkov

BSG:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=319495

edit - ModDb link, not sure if it's the same mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/battlestar-galactica-mod-for-x3-albion-prelude

new-x3-mods-bsg.wgz.cz

Star Trek:

new-x3-mods-star-trek.wgz.cz - As of 12/18/16 the owner of the site knows the ST mod link is down, he will be putting it back up within a week.

Egosoft Forum:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewforum.php?f=94

If you look on there, you will find all of the mods and there are a few threads with links to ships from just about every franchise you can think of. There are a lot of different useful mods, such as the plugin manager that help you add ships and completely customize the game.

edit - ModDb X3 mod page: http://www.moddb.com/mods?filter=t&kw=&released=&genre=&theme=&players=&timeframe=&game=11516

To be honest, I got X3 because of some of the mod videos I saw before I even knew what the game was. I saw the video for the Star Wars mod, a Star Trek mod, and a Battlestar Galactica mod that were all in progress. I traditionally love games that really require a stick like the X-Wing series, which you can use in this game, but you can control it with a mouse and keyboard just like Freelancer. It's very useful, especially for being able to play it on my laptop when I'm away from home. I just wanted to share this because it took me a while to find all the mods and such to get my X3 experience right where I wanted it to be. I'm hoping this will help some of you who are looking for the same experience, but also hope some can learn about X3 and decide to get it.

Edit - I forgot to add, you can control any of the craft. So i was flying around my Galactica and got into it with a basestar, I put the Galactica on AI control and launched in a viper to join the battle. It really feels like commanding a capital ship or flying a fighter.

I use ModDb daily, but I didn't include it in the original links for a reason. For some reason, the ModDb pages for this game aren't updated regularly, or at all in some cases. I don't know why. Some games it is the only place to find the newest and most up to date mods, and then others it's either an afterthought or nonexistent. I think in this case, it's just because the Egosoft forum community is so large and active, they just do it there. So use the ModDb pages, specifically the Star Wars mod is always up to date there, but the Egosoft forums are still worth checking since the majority of mods will be posted in the forums.

Lucike is one of the best X modders and has written countless scripts that allow you to enjoy the game even further:
https://xuniversum.info/

His scripts allow you to:
- hire universe traders
- hire traders that take care of one of your stations
- use CODEA and MEFOS weapon systems
- transport passengers and packages
- hire a prospector
- use a ship as tender
- rescue your stranded personnel
- plan complexes
Note: his personnel demands wages and improves itself, a great feature in my oppinion.
I know this is going to come across as nit-picky, but could you change the BSG heading to "Battlestar Galactica"?

While most of the people in the X3 forum may be Sci-Fi geeks (I wish), not everyone understands BSG, and I'd hate to see an otherwise well-intentioned mod post be misunderstood.

UPDATE: Wow, damn. Sorry for the accidental necro. Thanks to Destin's post, I didn't notice how old this was. Nevermind ;)

I use a bunch of small game improvement mods, whichof there are a fair amount but I know there are a few huge ones that change things so much that it is a new game.

This one I keep hearing a lot about: http://x3lu.wikia.com/wiki/X3:_Litcube%27s_Universe_Wiki

Actually thanks to both of you! (for necroing)

Never seen this thread before, slipped of my radar and I didn't know that there were those mods for X3 :D

Only knew about the one expanding the X3 universe (TDM or something like this???)

I wanted to post this for that reason. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the X series until a few years ago, but I have been in to space sims since I bought the original Tie Fighter on floppy disc. I end up coming across games like this when I look for mods from certain franchises a few times each year. I end up spending hours researching and putting my collection together for the best experience, so I thought it would be helpful to some to post these mods and help others discover this great game.

They are continually updating these and most of them are either on moddb or egosoft's forum. I am a huge fan of Freelancer and have been playing that since release (yes I know it's more arcade then sim, but it's still a great space experience) and X3 is probably the closest thing I found to the Freelancer gameplay.

Do you happen to know if this one:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/mikhail-skatchkov

is the same as the one in the egosoft forum? (tried to find it, but after 20 pages I gave up, maybe I overlooked the link....name seems to indicate it)

hmmm....first space sim, kind of :D, for me was Elite on the C64 :P And for sure Elite Plus on Amiga. (PC version was hmmm how to say it friendly......4 colours ....)
For me Freelancer paled a bit in comparison to Elite. Yes I do also both classify them both as sims, with the HW limitations on the old days, closest you could get as a sim :D

To be fair, I got really late onto the X-series, for any reason it was always under my radar till I picked up a cheap copy of X3:Reunion for like 7 bucks (like 4? 5? years ago). Now I own all but the IMHO latest disaster (some of them more then once :D ).

Unfortunate? or lucky enough? there aren't more around. Wouldn't know how to divide my time between them :D

And now with those mods.....does anyone has a time-machine? For making more time to play? :D

Yes, I believe it is the same one from the Egosoft forum. I thought I posted the Moddb page since that's where I download it simply for convenience, but maybe I forgot.

Thanks for adding it!

And I would love to have that time machine you spoke of! I waited my whole life for mods like this. You should check out the Xwing and Tie Figther series. You need a joystick for them, but they're definitely worth it. I started with Tie Fighter, but I don't see Freelancer or X as any way inferior, just different. I love Freelancer and still play that to this day. I don't know why they don't see the interest in the old Tie Fighter series, the Freeworlds mod for Freelancer, and finally make a Star Wars space sim again. They could completely rip off Freelancer and make it open universe and they would make tons of cash. Instead they come up with their own ideas for games that are mediocre that nobody asked for. They should just allow me to direct a Star Wars game or two and I'll make sure they do at least one the fans want!
