So I just got a blue dot on X3: Terran War Pack, without a changelog, but the windows version appears to have been updated to 3.5.
Looking around on the Egosoft forums a bit, it appears that a group of egosoft-supported fans created a new version with a lot more emphasis on diplomacy e.a.

Oh, heh, there was a news post about this as well. Yeah, no, I don't usually notice those...

X3: Farnham's Legacy (2021; Game available in English and German, only on Windows)
Developed by a dedicated group of players from Egosoft's DevNet community, X3: Farnham's Legacy is a new game in the X3 space game series. Set in the years after X3: Albion Prelude, as the chaos caused by the gate shutdown really takes hold, X3: Farnham's Legacy starts very differently to previous games in the X3 series. Trapped in an isolated area of space, you'll first need to make use of the new exploration features to find your way back to civilisation. Then, once you're there, you'll be able to use the new diplomacy options to help shape your relationships with the factions you find.
* A new plot throws you into the power struggle between corporations at a time of war.
* More jobs and non-linear missions than ever before.
* More than 100 new spaceships, new ship classes and weapon systems.
* Re-designed user interface for comfortable control by mouse, keyboard and joystick.
* New Stock Exchange feature allows advanced investment strategies
* Improved UI introducing charts to visualize economic developments

Will I be able to play Farham's Legacy on my linux version of X3AP 3.3 from steam?
Maybe. We can't promise anything as our resources for this are limited and are not available at all in the short term, but we will try.
Is there a lot that is needed for a Linux version to run? I mean, all the core is there. Is this just some cat/dat files that could run with the main binary?
No, it's not a huge amount of work, but it's work nonetheless, and from someone who is extremely busy at the moment.
A Mac version has however been ruled out (source): Maybe. We can't promise anything as our resources for this are limited and are not available at all in the short term, but we will try.

Sorry, but there won't be a Mac version. Even if we do manage to produce a Linux version at some point, just being "similar" to Linux doesn't really reduce the significant additional overheads associated with adapting, testing and getting a game approved for the Mac, and we simply can't afford to do that that for a free game.
There's a X3: Farnham's Legacy - Donation Pack available to "buy" on gog if you want to show extra support, with 100% of that money going to charity. Oh, heh, there was a news post about this as well. Yeah, no, I don't usually notice those...
