Hi Folks.
If, like me, you really liked X2, you couldn't help but notice that the graphics are getting a bit long in the tooth these days. Well there is a solution. A modder by the name of PlayerHOI was just released a pack containing much improved textures for the ships, stations and much improved backgrounds. The rest of the game is left just as is but it looks a heck of a lot better. Head on over to Mod DB if your interested.

Thanks to let us know!

and +1
Good to know even if I highly doubt I will ever return to X2 myself.

I think you'll be laughing, but I recently did think about restarting from the beginning :D

Not laughing, if I one day get all X games, I will probably play through them from the beginning up to X3:Reunion but only playing the story bit or just a little bit beyond that.

X2:The Threat was my first encounter with the X universe but it only lasted half an hour at a friend's place.

You are missing one?

And as they always come up with a newer one *cough* (not counting this whatever you want to call it ;) ) you would have a never-ending-story ;)

And just playing the story......sorry I really got a biiiiiiiig smile on my face. (not making fun of you, don't worry)
But at least for me, whenever I start one of the X-series, I tend to build up eco....just like oh, would be nice to get this weapon or ammunition or or or .....so I end up building (again) all factories....And let's not forget about the shield factories, nothing worse than flying around with measly 1MW shields because the Universe hasn't got anything else around :D

Doesn't it always start like this? :D

I only played Reunion and Terran Conflict and in Reunion I quit my first game and started a new one a smallish bit after the story ended (so maybe six hours after), then only got three days in before I seem to have taken a long break from the game, only to return to the X universe with Terran Conflict, kindly donated by WinterSnowfall. In X3:TC I am supposedt to build lots more factories but do not feel like it so it is on hiatus. That Hub plot is crazy.

I must say, I prefer Reunion over TC, one reason as you mentioned this crazy Hub plot. I had more fun building as a starter those nice factories supplementing the AI factories with stuff (you know those tertiary resources?) rather than building my MegaC....too much of a hassle even with the help of mods/bonuspack help.

I know a lot of people say tertiary resources do not pay off, but I found they are much less of a hassle and with afterwards starting to supply the primary/secondary resources you can start to buy dirt cheap for your own factories and sell your own stuff quite nice overprized :D

And there is nothing better for your own economy but to buy energy for 12-13 cr :D

Yes I think (after just rethinking this) that I did have a bigger economy in Reunion then I would have needed to have for the hub plot :D

But that is what I liked about the pre-disaster (sorry just IMHO ;) ) X-versions. You had all the freedom you wanted, merchant? Hunter? Whatever you liked. The ONLY thing which was never good, how to say it, if you went on a rampage against one faction that there was never really a good response (ok some mods 'fixed' it to a certain extend).

And because I forgotten how it is/was in X2 that is one reason alone to replay them ;)
X2 is still the only X universe game I have played. It's worth a little story.

I got Homeworld: Cataclysm demo on the CD with local PC World magazine franchise, was totally trilled, and went to the bazaar parlour in hopes to find it (I had no Internet at home back then), and the guy there suggested me "something similar" what happened to be X2 (LOL, of course, but somewhat even expected from that place).

I was kind of mad it wasn't anything close, but did give it a try, and got kind of hooked, despite the interface I can only describe as atrocious. I ended up playing with a binder of printed out charts and a live wall whiteboard for concurrent mission management. It probably was most accessories and additional materials I ever used for actually playing a computer game (as opposed to attempts to hack or mod, when research of resources and formats may take a lot sometimes). Since I'm more in the classic strategy and kind of loathe high graphics obsession, it probably may be the best looking game I own still, and absolutely surely is the only one ever where I indeed had just aimlessly wander around taking screen shot pictures.

So yes, there certainly some value in news someone made it even better.

i'm late, i know, but there are 2 patches that you can find at the egosoft forums. One focuses on space backgrounds, the other on all the textures. It makes the game look bangin'. Even the 'roids look nicer..
