The minimum graphics requirements for X4 are:

Nvidia GTX 780/970 or AMD equivalent (Vulkan support required)

That's high end through and through, even though these cards have been available for years.

Is this supposed to be some cool new feature? "You can only run this in high end gamer PCs, rejoice." Maybe the devs think higher minimum requirements means a better game. But even poorly optimized modern games like Witcher 3 expect much more modest specs to run at the minimum.

Is that even right anyway? I play Witcher 3 on my laptop with Geforce 940MX on very low detail. Fallout 4, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, too. Do you think will X4 run here too, or should I look elsewhere for more modest games?
Sure are steep. I almost started weeping when I saw that. I have not had my current graphics card for even one year yet.

For X3:Terran Conflict (sold in the Terran War pack here) Egosoft made a demo to test whether your computer could handle the game. Now when the demands again are so high, I would like a repeat of that.

Thankfully for us with desktop computers, the prices for all but the weakest graphics cards, except Nvidas latest 2000 series, have been falling rapidly this year. Does not help anyone with a laptop though.
I have a 1060 graphics card and it ran fine on that. I think it`s the cpu and ram you`re going to really need to put some effort into.

Increasing ram isn`t that expensive and might do the job by itself... Unless you guys are running really old pcs and expecting miracles.

i`ve just seen Rafael`s specs and what he ran fine on... those games are considered old, now m8, and with your laptop, you`re asking a lot.

Which version? The 3GB version? Your resolution? Max settings and if not, what was lowered?

6 GIG version. I knew I wouldn`t get far with 3 gig. 1080 res. It was all on Max settings. However i`ve only been on it a few hours, i might bring down all that AA/AS stuff if things get choppy.

I think this game isn`t really a graphics eater but a CPU eater and a good cpu and good ram likely matters more.

I play with an older i-5, 16 gig ram and a gtx 970 on high settings without problems. My rig is about 5 years old so the requirements aren't that steep. Besides that, my machine is a bit below the minimum requirement but the game still runs well.

Yep, its pretty much the same story historically with all the X series games, if you have minimum spec Graphics card you will be fine, but dont skimp on the CPU horse power and system RAM, the more the merrier.

Nice to see Vulkan being used by another game and making use of its power, in that regard this version of the game series has upped the graphics requirements a bit more than usual.

I have been playing this game series since 2006, started with X2 The Threat.

It ran fine on a 1060 graphics card, sure, you're talking current-gen, and right within the minimum requirements advertised. Well done.

Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 aren't old, they're hi-specced games in their own right. What you're saying is the same the devs must be saying now: get a hi-spec gig to play a non-AAA game or get out, which unfortunately is what I tend to read on most PC gaming forums.

RafaelLVX:
Good thing then there are so many nice older games that run on old hardware and when you get around to this one it has been patched and extended and expanded and your computer is newer or buying one good enough for the game will only cost you half of what it costs now. :-)

Playing AAA games on their day of release is an expensive hobby.

I do not think I wish to look up what crazy expensive CPU is the mobile equivalent of a core i-7 6700K.

They are old in computer game terms and you had to run on low on that.

What you ignore or fail to comprehend is that it`s not about graphics but ram and cpu which X4 really needs, not so Witcher 3, Falloout 4 or Deus Ex and with a laptop you are going to have even more issues as laptops are not half as easy to upgrade once a year or two has passed unless you have a super expensive laptop which you clearly don`t.

The truth is, you`re gonna need a new laptop or, as I would advise a desktop. leave your laptop for work, or old games, as I do.

Yeah, I heard that one before, leave the laptop, I'm not entitled to playing games, right?

Dude I always run on low, get your own mind around that. That's not the issue, the question is being able to run games well or not at all. If running on low is a problem, then it's a problem you'd have, not me. Great games with decent requirements run here just fine.

Yea, keep refusing to see logic and facts and keep whining.. I`m sure that`ll fix your laptop issues... `Dude`..

Witcher 3 is a three and a half years old game about a brat which lets you die in a hut if you go drinking with her instead of throwing snowballs at her and X4 simulates a whole universe with corresponding economy where you can zip around in and order a good portion of that down to each ware in each ship.
What's your point?
