Both BTF and Tension outputs audio static during the cinematics, menu and in-game. The music channel seems the only one with the problem as if I lower the music slider in the game audio options I can hear both dialog and effects channels just fine. I can hear very faint music if I raise it's volume but the static overwhelms most of it.

Both games call my LAV audio decoder that was installed with the Combined Community Codec Pack but might not matter because if I kill both module instances (LAVAudio.ax) there's no interruption in the audio and they aren't called again untill I restart the game.

Attached is a screenshot of the threads tab of the X.exe properties in Sysinternals Process Explorer while the game is on main focous.

Any ideas?

Exactly the same problem here, all audio on EVERY X game is just loud static, I tried installing the latest cccp version too but to no avail.
Same with me here

I got the problem that, regardless which part of the box I start, there`s no sound.

Only a static noise in which you might guess some soundtrack in the background.

Are there maybe some codecs missing? My Windows Media Player is up to date, I`m using Win 8.1. and a NI Komplete 6 Audio Interface, which didn`t cause any issues with GOG - Games so far.

Some help would be REALLY great, since i wanted to check these games so badly! :(

I am sure Egosoft's technical forum will have something useful:

It's really a codec issue: steamcommunity.com/app/2840 - see thread "Static In-game" by Sir Failalot -

Since I got the K-lite Pack installed and couldn't find any specific LAV - settings there like mentioned in the link above (unticking the solely activated LAV box at AAC settings didn't have any effect btw.), I simply uninstalled it.

Don't know if I'll need K-lite in the future or why I even installed it in the past!? ^^

But the most important thing:

IT WORKS!! :D

Those packs, sadly, seem to cause a lot of grief and grey hairs. I gave up on them years ago and now VLC takes care of my decoding.
Cool! Thanks everyone. :)

So, to clarity how to fix for Combined Community Codec Pack users:

- Run "CCCP Settings"
- Click on "LAV Audo Settings"
- Tab "Formats"
- Uncheck "mp2", "mp3" and "wavpack"
- Choose apply.

Note: Crosmando mentioned that all of X games are affected the same way (I've only tryed with BTF and Tension) so, all those formats mentioned above might include all untill X3: Albion Prelude(in the X3: Terran War Pack).

I do like the codec pack, altho I undestand there would be issues along the line. :)

Hey, I've been looking around and there's actually a better codec pack than CCCP:
http://haruhichan.com/forum/showthread.php?7545-KCP-Kawaii-Codec-Pack

Main difference is that it uses MadVR ad default output. Also, it doesn't have the audio static issue in these games either (I just tried them out), probably because it uses different audio settings or something.

Thanks. Might be worth a shot. Sometimes I'm just not able to watch files with inbedded subtitle tracks in full GPU rendering.

Thanks, had the same issue, your solution works.
Been wrestling with the same problem, but just updating my CCCP installation from some 2014 version to the latest one (2015-10-18 64-bit) fixed all audio issues for me without modifying the CCCP settings (actually, I uninstalled the old & installed the new one - don't know if the prior uninstalling is really necessary).

Thanks I had the exact same problem. It worked like a charm.
