Seeing that other people reporting no problems with the Steam version I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Steam version too.
It works perfectly, no issues when the worms hit the water. So far it has not crashed at all on the same PC I installed the GOG version.
Although it too is missing soundbanks from the original, which I find unnacceptable.
I've had a response from GOG in the shape of an e-mail asking me to follow some basic support-related steps (uninstall the game, uninstall DirectX etc) but nothing specific relating to the water issue.
I also logged the issue with Team 17s' support site and received the automated "We have received your e-mail" response - I only logged it yesterday so don't expect an actual response until Monday.
I haven't read the forums on Steam so cannot say if others are having problems with that version, but as I say the Steam version seems to be fine on my PC and on the same PC the GOG version has the crash.
My specs:
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.7 GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 8.1 (64 bit bit version)
Looking forward to the patch.
I hope they also see sense and provide the missing soundbanks because to be honest I'm not going to play without the classic "Rasta" voice :-). I'll dig up my old CD and copy it in manually, hopefully that will work.
