Just in case anybody has forgotten about it: Worms is a very customizable game. Everything from teams over sounds and levels can be created or edited and since this is a very old-fashioned game, creating your own level isn't exactly rocket science. Specifically, you need one image (and two optional background images) and that's pretty much it. DOCS\CUSTOM.TXT in your worms directory has all the information you need, just make sure that you run the utilities inside DOSBOX if you're using a 64bit OS (just open dosbox.conf in a text editor and put a "#" in front of "call WORMS" and "exit", then open the properties of the worms shortcut and remove the "-c exit". After that the shortcut will drop you off at a commandline that you can either use to play the game by entering WORMS or run the utilities).

So, here's my little contribution. I'm not much of an artist, but it somehow seems appropriate

Just download this file and extract it to your worms directory. To play, just hit space on the level select screen and enter GOG.

Juast wish we'd have a few more people here who are interested in making their own levels. If there's time I'll be happy to help with palette creation and conversion, but I'm just not much of an artist.

Oh I will totally make levels once I pick the game up. Probably tomorrow, when I get paid. That'd be awesome.

As long as it can edit bitmaps and save to PCX you're set. I'm using PaintShopPro9, but Gimp or even paint.net should work equally well.

Just create a 960x400 image and start drawing. Fill everything that you want to appear transparent with one special color and reduce the image to 80 colors total and well, that's pretty much it. Save it as 256-color PCX and run it through the GFXCON tool that lives in the worms/data/custom/gfx folder, which is also where your file should end up if you want to play the level.

I'll try to post a few more tips, but for now you can find pretty detailed instructions in the worms/docs/ folder

I've made a short video on how to do it with Gimp in another thread. I'll take a look at paint.net in a second.

Edit: Bad news: it seems paint.net can't save to PCX, so you either need a converter or switch to Gimp

Edit 2: Or at least copy/paste from paint.net to gimp and do the final saving there.

Okay, I made a PCX in GIMP, made it max 80 colors, set the transparent color I wanted to the first color, converted it with GFXCON and... it still won't work. I've tried with and without an INF file. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Here, check it out if you want.

Incidentally, every time I open a PCX in GIMP and check the color map, it's back up to 256 again for some reason.
