I'm not sure what other games I'd compare it to. I played Mercedes World Racing on XBox & enjoyed it. It wasn't the best racing game, but was a fun 4-player split screen arcade racing experience. I had never played this one, so picked it up to try out. I've only played 2.5 hours at this point, but I've enjoyed it so far. The single player mode feels pretty linear so far. The menus are also slightly more confusing than I would expect.

As far as gameplay, it's a bit awkward, but fun. The handling is a bit stiff, but predictable. Brakes feel a bit too effective. I'm used to more simulation focused racing games, so I approach most racing games with that mindset from the start. You do have to brake for corners, but I find it's best to tap them a few times and maybe downshift to slow your car. If you hold the brakes like you would IRL, you lose way too much speed. You basically want to position yourself for the outside of the corner, tap the brakes a time or two, start your steering input, then go straight back into the throttle. You almost certainly won't spin out (I'm playing with all assists off on controller). So far, the real difficulty has come from the traffic & reading the course. Courses take place in cities or multi-layout race courses. You can continue down the road you're on & completely miss a corner. I've done that a lot in the couple of hours I've been playing. I've also had more than a few races killed by hitting traffic. Often it's traffic that the AI driver in front of me already hit.

I also, just got to a drifting section, & I really feel like I'm struggling. I'm hoping this won't be a serious difficulty wall for me.

Overall, fun, but mid-tier.

So, I played a bit more after responding yesterday. The single player isn't totally linear. Each page of missions is unlocked by completion percentage. The drift mission I was stuck on apparently wasn't the only one I had unlocked. I could have skipped it. That said, the drift missions aren't as bad as I originally thought.

For said first drift mission, you need 300 points total across 4 laps, while also meeting maximum lap time allowances. Your drift needs to be minimum of 10 points to bank. Drifts fail if you go too far off course or spin out. I'm not sure of the exact threshold, but it seems like you need to be over about 50mph for drifts to accumulate points. I was able to complete the mission by going for 10-25 point drifts around any corner where the car was in 4th gear on approach, & racing normally otherwise. I found bumping the brake & handbrake while downshifting to 3rd & turning got enough of a slide to get drift points while not spinning out. It took a bit of practice, but wasn't too hard overall.

I'm not sure whether you can finish the single player while completely skipping the drift missions, but so far they're a very small portion of my available missions. Probably close to 10% of events so far as a high end estimate. Even then, the focus is split between drifting & lap times. I feel like the game would be better without it, but it's not something that will keep me from playing more.

Also, quick note. Events have provided cars or choice of cars so far, but if you want to purchase a car for yourself (maybe only useful in side content/multiplayer (if any form of it still exists)), you use the joyride option. Then you can purchase a car & proceed to drive it somewhere.

Thanks for the update.
If I had money I would buy it. It willl have to wait. I will give it ago some time in the following year I hope.
Happy gaming.
This is one of the best racing games out there!! It's comparable to Forza Horizon but it's better. No teenager/hippie/gangsta people, no action driving. This is a true realistic simulation physics open world racing game with one of the most realistic damage models and you can even tweak it by modifying a text file and change some values. And you can find thousands of addon content on games.reveur.de
Have fun.

*edit: Oh no, games.reveur.de is offline. But you should find all these addons somewhere else.
