So I tried to play the game and it told me that it failed to load because it couldn't find an appropriate 3D graphics or something.

I find this hard to believe as I can run everything else without issue. Any idea what's going on?

Have you already tried (re-)installing the Microsoft DirectX9 Runtimes from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Run the file, extract it to a separate folder, go there and run DXSETUP.exe for installation.

I too have the same problem. I tried the DX9 installation but it didn't make a difference. And I have an appropriate 3D card on my machine. Baffling.

I havent been able to get it to run either. Installed DX9 which didnt bring a solution. got a fairly recent laptop with a nv 970gtx and latest nvidia drivers on win10.

i sort of found a fix. its only affecting people with a laptop which has an optimus intel/nvidia combo where the system automatically chooses between the intel graphics chip and nvidia. first, in nvidia settings i force it to use the nvidia card for WIC.
then loading up the game i still get the message that i dont have an approriate graphics card, but i dont hit OK but cancel. and the game loads up as intended. but wtf... really. how are people supposed to guess this?

Just to confirm the above, I hit the cancel button and it worked! Did the same in setting it to use the nvidia card first though. Many thanks for the heads up.

I wanted to join the party here, to confirm that this works. It uses the dedicated card to run the game, Win 10. Not sure what could be the cause.

I have had the same problem, but when the warning comes up, my computer will not let me click or choose anything on it or my computer, my mouse cursor will not show and is not even present.

General-Marionette: I have had the same problem, but when the warning comes up, my computer will not let me click or choose anything on it or my computer, my mouse cursor will not show and is not even present.
Just press right arrow key and you'll be able to select the Cancel button
