Hello, so I’ve downloaded the game from gog, and I want to use the mod tools. However, I tried installing them, but they won’t install for some reason. Can anyone help me with this?

Hi BenjaminKirk.

What mod exactly are you trying to install and what is that you want to create?

Cheers.

Hey BenjaminKirk

i found the solution for the ModKid installation problem (Nukem on the WiC discard gave it to me)
Apparently the Tools look for a registry key, that the Steam/GoG Version (digital only?) are missing.

I ll provide the sollution, yes i did it and yes the installation works after that.

Follow the steps:

1: create a new txt file

WiC_ModTool_fix.txt

2: copy the text below in that txt file

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Massive Entertainment AB]

;
; WicEd and the ModKit both look for this specific registry key. If you have a GOG or other
; non-standard game install, you must use this fix.
;
; InstallPath must be set to your current World in Conflict installation folder. Backslashes must
; be escaped ('\' -> '\\'). The game MUST be version 1.0.1.1.
;
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Massive Entertainment AB\World in Conflict]
"InstallPath"="E:\\Program Files (x86)\\World in Conflict - Complete Edition\\"
"Version"="1.0.1.1"

3: rename the txt file to reg

WiC_ModTool_fix.reg

4. double click the reg flile, that ll add the registry keys needed so the tools can "find" your WiC

5. open the registry editor and change the installpath (see above) accordingly
or do it in the file itself as the text describes (i did it manually in the registry itself)

like this:
search the entry under the HKey_LocalMachine and so on then change the path to
where you installed the GoG Version of WiC

6. follow the instructions of the Mod Tools, you ll need both the Map Editor and Mod Kit
You find the latest Versions of the tools at www.massgate.org

I purchased WiC through GoG as the primary install disk for my physical copy would fail at the start of the installation. And with it being so cheap i said screw it, digital is better anyways these days.

I haven't played WiC in probably about ten years but I did enjoy going through using the ModKit to make units have more health, more realistic gun ranges, etc. well, the gog version doesn't play well with the map editor or modkit from massgate.

GHOSTMD has the fix but after following his post, I wasn't getting anywhere using the .txt file method on windows 10. And after making myself feel really dumb, eventually got the map editor and SDK to install, but I felt Ghost's post could be worded better so here I am writing this up.

This is on a windows 10. Instead of trying to make a registry file through a .txt file. going through the registry editor is a lot easier and should only take a few minutes.

1:
type Regedit into the windows search bar and click windows registry editor

2:
locate the WiC folder through this directory
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Massive Entertainment AB\World in Conflict

3:
make sure you click the WiC subfolder under Massive Entertainment AB, and in the registry editor there should be one file that reads as follows, mostly to know if you're in the right place to add the files
Default REG_SZ

4:
right-click in the registry editor and select new>string value
you will be doing this twice, naming one 'InstallPath' and the second new file 'Version'.

5:
After naming them, click installpath and under value data type in the directory that WiC is located on your computer ie 'C:\Program Files (x86)\World in Conflict - Complete Edition\'

Then by clicking Version, simply type into the value data box '1.0.1.1'

>> the attached photo is how it should look once you're done <<

6: run the map editor install file from massgate or wherever, then the modkit if you wish, and enjoy!

thanks again to ghostmd and nukem for this fix, I would have had no idea how to get it working otherwise, and I hope this makes it a bit clearer how easy a fix this is.
cheers
