Hello, all. I was doing some digging on the Wolfenstein wiki and I looked at the articles for Return to Danger and Ultimate Challenge. The story given for both seems very similar, and the level bosses are identical. I've been a fan of Wolf 3d since I started playing it so I might do both those mission packs, just for the fun of it, but is the story similar enough that Ultimate Challenge is just a re-skin of Return to Danger, so that I wouldn't be missing much skipping it(Ultimate Challenge)? I realize most people don't play Wolf 3d or its expansion for the story, but I like the few nuggets of storytelling there actually are.

I recently played through SoD, RtD and UC. Basically, both of the FormGen packs have no in-game story (the in game plot items are a carbon copy of the plot items from SoD - i.e. the end sequence is exactly the same). Both RtD and UC have the full story listed in the manual/online - in the first, Hitler steals back the Spear and in the second - he steals it back again.

I still enjoyed playing through them, but they're basically just reskinned SoD with worse level design. You won't miss out on anything by not playing them, but they're enjoyable enough.
Thanks for the quick response, pds41. To clarify, I recently beat Spear of Destiny and I started playing Return to Danger. I still haven't decided if I want to go through 21 more levels, or basically 42 if I do both Return to Danger and Ultimate Challenge, or whether I want to move on to a game like Doom, Sin, or Shadow Warrior Classic Redux that I have in my backlog.
It seems the FormGen mission packs are the Lost Missions again.

Spear of Destiny (which had both of them included) has been removed from the store listings. Instead it's now bundled directly with Wolfenstein 3D -- but without Return to Danger and The Ultimate Challenge.

If you have the separate SoD package in your library, it's still there of course; but for newcomers there doesn't seem to be a way to get RTD and TUC.

The same thing happened also on Steam, by the way.
Several users have reported that the separate SoD package is removed when an account refresh is triggered, so even old owners are scheduled to lose access (in contrast to Steam where the old version is not removed retroactively).

I downloaded SoD from my library and installed... it has all 3 games (SoD, RtD, and UC). It is one setup file and the installation has 3 game subdirectories. When you start the game, you get to select which game to play.

Spear of Destiny removed from old Wolf3D package of Wolf3d+SoD. For no reason. If you still have it on account - that somehow your acc not resfreshed - backup download files there for SoD. And for Wolf3d too, ofc, if it is still older one.
Yes, sooner ou later you will lose access to your Spear of Destiny entry (with expansions) in the catalog.
Don't refresh your account if you haven't backed them up.

Things like this (changing products already bought for an inferior version) are making me shop on GoG less and less over time. Sad.

This hasn't affected me either. Still have them both separate. Already archived.

Edit: They finally merged them without me having to refresh. The count in my collection also went down by two. I wonder what the other one is.

What is meant by "refreshing your account"?

crodgers: What is meant by "refreshing your account"?
Entering this into the adress bar:
https://www.gog.com/user/refresh

But don't do it before you archived your SoD copy. I had contact with GOG support and demanded to keep access to what I purchased. Apparently GOG is not allowed to let their customers have access to what they purchased and they are not even allowed to talk about these changes. GOG is only advising those who are dissatisfied to talk to Bethesda. I tried this as well. My mail was ignored and then I accessed their discord and my post was deleted. Maybe we need a few more GOGers to tell them how the law is working and what a contract means - apparently Bethesda prefers to screw their customers. So if you want to tell thm something here is the link to their discord:

https://discord.gg/bethesda

Speaking of legal things: I am wondering if - since we all paid for it - it would be legal to download the old GOG version from those download sites in case someone did not rchive their version in time ... Bethesda never removed our rights to use the software and they also never refunded our money ...

Spear of Destiny is appearing in libraries again! Refresh your accounts again if you don't see it.
I seem to have two versions of Wolfenstein 3D and Sphere of Destiny is now it's own thing under the game library?

As it was originally, yes.

I think this may be related to my recent support ticket. I did an account refresh and noticed afterwards that Wolfenstein 3D and Spear Of Destiny, which I installed via Galaxy in 2020, were no longer being recognized by Galaxy, but the installs were still in my Galaxy games folder. I checked my collection on a browser and realized that Spear Of Destiny was completely missing, but Wolfenstein 3D was still there (but then why wasn't my install recognized by Galaxy?).

The support person I communicated with genuinely believed that the newly repackaged Wolfenstein 3D that Bethesda sent to GOG included all the content from before. To convince them, I linked to this thread to show I wasn't the only one experiencing this, included all manner of screenshots to corroborate what was missing and brought up that even Steam allowed customers to keep the original versions in their accounts.

Why is there two versions of Wolfenstein 3D now? From what I can gather, one is the Bethesda repackage and the other is the original without Spear Of Destiny but whose release is inextricably linked to the standalone Spear Of Destiny because they were sold together as a bundle. In order to restore one you had to restore the other. This all happened because the database was replacing the OG entry that we originally purchased with the new one. I'm happy this is finally resolved.
