I'm in front of the rotating room, inserted a glowing gem into the lock right before it, but that damn thing doesen't move (spent several minutes looking at the cracks).

Is there something I'm overlooking?

Had the same problem with collasium not spinning back on CD version! Also had it at Erathsmedor's door once..
The following worked in those cases, I hope it can assist you:

Open inventory. Rapidly click the in-inventory map button, or switch between tabs in inventory. Keep an eye on the little screen showing the game up top for small movements of the environment. If you click enough between inventory screens, it should force the game to move the time forward, even if one frame at a time.

This can actually prove beneficial in a few cases, though I won't expound on that unless asked (spoiler territory and fun to find these things for future playthroughs..)

Well, after much clicking I can hear a grating noise and sometimes see a little movement or one of my characters gets hurt. But no matter how often I click - no opening appears. And finally my characters run out of air.

Bummer.

Hmm... There's a more recent thread on Ironworks, but they suggest a similar tactic: Un-equipping and re-equipping an item, which also advances time. Making sure to face the door to watch for movement in the top of the inventory screen.

Others suggest to look for anything "jamming" the movement of the door. Or using something to jam the door when it's where you want.

One other mentioned a work-around, the popular Vanish spell.

The search function isn't working there, at the moment, so a little hard to find answers, unfortunately.

Un-equipping and re-equipping an item does the trick. But now I run out of air and while I'm frantically searching for a place where I can hold my head above water I keep on getting stuck on all kinds of edges. My, this is so badly designed, I think I will give up on this game.

Anyhow, thank you very much for your help!
