Hi,

I have W8 Setup 2.0.0.6.. After I installed the game and tried to start, the game crashes to desktop. No intro can be seen.

OS : Win 7 Pro
Graphic : GeForce GTX 670

Please, I need advice how to get the game running. (I bought W7 too and it works fine.)

Have you read here?

Anyway, you may also try setting the compatibility mode for the game to "Windows Xp".
Right click on the game exe, select "Properties" then choose the "Compatibility" tab: there you can find the compatibility modes.
crash to desktop at start = run game as admin
If you have windows update KB3086255 installed, remove it and try to run the game.
@all

Thanks for your hints.

@ dr.schliemann

Tried everything : XP, Win98 , all possible combinations but no effect.

@ussnorway

I run the game as an admin, it still crashes.

@townlu

I'll try this tomorrow.

After all failed, I hope that's a solution.

This update removes the DRM "SafeDisc" driver from the system for security reasons. I don't understand how this could be related to a DRM-free game.

Sorry, maybe I should write not too short sentences in my answers.

I tried it but it still crashes. The only difference was that the dark screen before the crash lasts a second or two longer than before. I still can't see anything of the game.

I will try towntlu idea later. I hope it works.

Edit: After that I'll try the Update for DRM-Safe Disc. I bought a lot of older games from GOG and I never had problems. I don't understand why W8 causes this problems.

It was only a shot into the darkness, not based on my own experience,
messages on postcount.net wizardry board and cosmicforge.freeforums.org report succes on removing mentioned update.
Although i use the original version and dont know the exact files that gog provides,
the gog version must rely on the commonly used 1.24 nocd exe as it works with mods that require the latter,
so the mere presence of secdrv.sys(which i dare to guess was not removed from original game files by GoG)
might cause the issue.

@Werewolf
crash may also be related to issue with format of video cutscenes,
as a workaround try to move all files in Wiz8Installdir\data\flics\intro to another folder.

Interesting: it's worth a try, even if I think that this solution is more suitable for the retail version of the game, and I suppose (and hope!) that GOG installer won't install a DRM driver on the system.
